The Shura Council refers 17 university files and reports to upcoming sessions

In a move that reinforces the rapidly expanding oversight and legislative role of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the General Assembly of the Shura Council held its eleventh meeting today, as part of the second year of the Council's ninth session. The meeting was chaired by the Council's Vice President, Dr. Meshaal bin Fahm Al-Sulami, at the Council's headquarters in Riyadh, and was attended by the Assistant Speaker, Dr. Hanan bint Abdulrahim Al-Ahmadi, the Secretary-General of the Council, Mr. Mohammed bin Dakhel Al-Mutairi, and the heads of the Council's specialized committees.
The meeting resulted in important decisions regarding the organization of legislative work for the next phase. The committee reviewed the topics on its agenda and approved the referral of 17 vital issues to the agenda of upcoming council sessions. This step comes as part of the council's commitment to accelerating the review of government regulations and reports in line with the objectives of the Kingdom's Vision 2030.
Oversight of university education
The annual reports of Saudi universities topped the list of submitted files, including the 2024 performance reports for Umm Al-Qura University, Jazan University, King Abdulaziz University, and Northern Border University. Presenting these reports to the Shura Council is of paramount importance, as the Council plays a crucial role in evaluating educational outcomes, assessing the alignment of academic specializations with the evolving needs of the labor market, and reviewing the financial and administrative efficiency of these prestigious educational institutions.
International agreements and economic partnerships
On the international and economic front, the Authority referred several draft agreements and memoranda of understanding reflecting the Kingdom's growing diplomatic and economic relations. These documents covered vital areas such as the economy, air transport services, and energy, in addition to information exchange in the infrastructure and construction sectors with a number of sister and friendly nations.
These agreements are of strategic importance as they contribute to strengthening the Kingdom's position as a global logistics and economic hub, and support efforts to diversify income sources and develop infrastructure according to the highest international standards. The upcoming sessions are expected to witness extensive discussions on the terms of these agreements to ensure they serve the highest national interests before voting and ratifying them.
It is worth noting that the General Authority of the Shura Council is responsible for setting the general plans for the Council and scheduling the work of its sessions, which ensures the smoothness of the legislative and oversight process and the accuracy of the Council’s outputs and decisions.
