The Speaker of the Shura Council visits Malaysia to strengthen parliamentary relations
The Speaker of the Shura Council, Sheikh Dr. Abdullah bin Mohammed bin Ibrahim Al Sheikh, affirmed the strength and depth of the bilateral relations that bind the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the Kingdom of Malaysia, praising the mutual interest and continuous care that these ties receive from the leadership of the two countries to strengthen them and push them towards broader horizons in various fields.
These statements coincided with the start of an official visit by Sheikh Dr. Abdullah Al-Sheikh to the Malaysian capital, Kuala Lumpur, leading a high-level delegation from the Shura Council. The visit was in response to an official invitation from the Speaker of the Malaysian House of Representatives, Jauhari Abdul. This visit is part of the parliamentary diplomacy efforts led by the Council to strengthen ties with influential international parliaments.
Historical and strategic dimensions of relations
This visit is of particular importance given the significant influence both countries hold in the Islamic world. Riyadh and Kuala Lumpur share deep-rooted historical ties spanning decades, based on strong foundations of Islamic brotherhood and shared interests. Malaysia is a key partner for the Kingdom in Southeast Asia, with the two countries sharing common perspectives on numerous regional and international issues, in addition to their close cooperation within the framework of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.
Through these mutual visits, both sides seek to harmonize legislative efforts to serve the development goals of both countries, especially in light of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030, which opens wide doors for economic and investment partnerships, and the corresponding ambitious development plans on the Malaysian side.
Strengthening parliamentary diplomacy
In explaining the visit's objectives, Dr. Abdullah Al-Sheikh stated that this initiative is part of an ongoing effort to develop parliamentary relations and strengthen effective communication channels between the Shura Council and the Malaysian House of Representatives. He noted that parliamentary diplomacy plays a pivotal role in supporting government decisions and overcoming legislative obstacles to bilateral agreements, thus contributing to the interests of both nations.
During the visit, the Speaker of the Shura Council is scheduled to hold an official meeting with his Malaysian counterpart, during which the close bilateral relations will be reviewed, ways to enhance parliamentary cooperation will be discussed, and mechanisms for raising the level of coordination and consultation in international and regional parliamentary forums will be discussed in order to unify positions on issues of common interest.

The Speaker of the Shura Council is accompanied on this visit by an official delegation that includes a number of council members, namely: Professor Faihan bin Abdulaziz bin Labdah, Dr. Asim bin Mohammed Madkhali, Engineer Ali bin Ayedh Al-Qarni, and Professor Khalid bin Mohammed Abu Malha, in addition to a number of officials in the council, which reflects the great interest that the council attaches to this visit and its expected outcomes.
