The International Fisheries Exhibition kicks off in Riyadh with the participation of 30 countries

Under the patronage of the Deputy Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture, Engineer Mansour bin Hilal Al-Mashiti, the fifth International Fisheries Exhibition (SIMEC) will commence tomorrow, Monday, January 26, at the Riyadh International Convention and Exhibition Center. The prominent event will run for three days until Wednesday, January 28, amidst strong local and international participation, reflecting the growing importance of this vital sector.
A global platform to promote food security
The organization of this exhibition comes at a time when the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is steadily progressing towards achieving the goals of Vision 2030, which places particular emphasis on the fisheries sector as a key pillar for diversifying the national economy and achieving food security. The Kingdom is working to leverage its extensive coastlines on the Red Sea and the Arabian Gulf to enhance fisheries productivity and aquaculture, making this exhibition a strategic opportunity to attract foreign investment and localize modern technologies in this field.
The exhibition primarily aims to showcase the latest innovations and technological solutions across various sectors, including aquaculture, fisheries, feed production, algae technologies, seafood processing, shipbuilding, and port logistics services. It also highlights the promising investment opportunities within the sector, fostering collaboration and partnerships between local and international investors.
Wide international participation and record numbers
SIMEC is a leading international platform that brings together a select group of experts and decision-makers under one roof. This edition features participation from over 30 countries, including Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, Oman, the UAE, Egypt, Morocco, Russia, and Norway, reflecting the event's international significance. The exhibition includes more than 120 local and international companies and organizations, with an expected attendance of approximately 3,500 local and 450 international businesspeople, and over 15,000 visitors. Fifteen government entities and five specialized international pavilions are also participating.
The exhibition is scheduled to witness the signing of 15 strategic cooperation agreements, confirming its pivotal role in developing Saudi exports of fish products and opening new markets, in addition to supporting marine industries and support services.
Specialized workshops and the future of aquaculture
The exhibition is not limited to trade displays; it also features a rich scientific program including specialized workshops that discuss the future of the industry. The sessions address vital topics such as foundational studies to support inland aquaculture projects, modern seafood auction systems, and smart planning for sustainable aquaculture.
Experts will also discuss closed floating pond technologies, aquaculture in semi-enclosed environments, and ecosystem-based approaches to fisheries management. The exhibition will conclude with a focus on national quality labels, the transition from scientific research to commercial innovation, and algal biotechnology, ensuring a comprehensive vision for the future and sustainability of the fisheries sector.
