The prize money for the 2026 Spanish Super Cup has been increased to €21.3 million

The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has officially announced a significant economic move aimed at boosting competitiveness among elite clubs, as it has been decided to increase the total value of the prize money allocated to the Spanish Super Cup for the 2026 edition. Under this decision, the value of the prizes will increase from 19 million euros in the 2025 edition to reach a new record of 21.3 million euros.

Details of the new financial rewards distribution

The federation explained in its statement today that the tournament's new financial structure will be based on a more balanced and equitable distribution mechanism. The total amount has been divided into two main parts:

  • Fixed participation bonuses: A total of €16.3 million has been allocated and will be distributed among the four participating clubs (league champion and runner-up, and cup champion and runner-up), a significant increase compared to €14.95 million in the previous season. Each club's share of this fixed amount is based on its historical ranking and sporting results (coefficient) in domestic and international competitions.
  • Performance and results bonuses: worth 5 million euros, with the winning team receiving 2 million euros, the runner-up receiving 1.4 million euros, while the two teams that exit the tournament from the semi-finals share 800,000 euros each.

Context of the transformation of the Spanish Super Cup system

This financial increase comes as part of the significant evolution the tournament has undergone since its format change in 2020, transforming from a single match or two-legged ties between the league and cup champions into a mini-tournament with a "Final Four" system. This radical change, coupled with the relocation of the tournament to Saudi Arabia under a long-term agreement, has directly contributed to doubling the financial returns for the Spanish Football Federation and the participating clubs, making the Spanish Super Cup one of the most lucrative competitions in Europe.

Economic importance and competitiveness

This strategic approach by the Spanish Football Federation aims to bolster the financial strength of Spanish clubs in the face of global economic challenges and fierce competition from other leagues, particularly the English Premier League. Providing additional revenue through short-term tournaments like the Super Cup helps major clubs such as Barcelona and Real Madrid, as well as other clubs that reach the top four, to improve their annual budgets.

This announcement comes in conjunction with the great public anticipation for the final of the current edition, which brings together the two poles of Spanish football, Real Madrid and Barcelona, in the El Clasico to determine the Super Cup champion, which confirms the high marketing value that this competition enjoys.
