Study in Saudi Arabia: Enhancing education without impacting local students
His Excellency the Minister of Media, Mr. Salman Al-Dossari, clarified that the launch of the “Study in Saudi Arabia” platform, aimed at international students, will not negatively impact the admission opportunities of Saudi students in local universities. Mr. Al-Dossari emphasized that this initiative is part of well-considered strategic plans designed to elevate the Kingdom’s educational system and establish it as a global hub for attracting exceptional talent.
This came in response to a journalist's inquiry, where the minister explained that Saudi universities allocate specific, predetermined seats for international students according to established quotas. He emphasized that these seats are completely separate from those allocated to Saudi students and are not affected in any way. He added that the goal is to attract outstanding minds from around the world, which contributes to enhancing the academic competitiveness of Saudi universities globally.
“Study in Saudi Arabia”: A strategic step within Vision 2030
The “Study in Saudi Arabia” platform aligns directly with the goals of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030, which prioritizes developing human capital and enhancing the quality of education. Through these initiatives, the Kingdom aims to transform its universities into centers of scientific and research excellence, attracting talent from around the world. Attracting international students is not merely an educational policy; it is a long-term investment in building a knowledge-based economy, diversifying income sources, and strengthening the Kingdom’s position as a leading educational destination in the region and globally.
The importance of cultural and academic diversity in Saudi universities
The minister noted that the presence of international students enriches the academic environment and enhances cultural and intellectual exchange on campus. This diversity creates a stimulating learning environment that encourages innovation and creativity, and refines the skills of Saudi students through their interaction with peers from diverse cultural and academic backgrounds. This international presence also contributes to improving the ranking of Saudi universities in global indices, making them a preferred destination for researchers and innovators, and ultimately benefiting the overall quality of educational outcomes.
Knowledge Ambassadors: Enhancing the Kingdom's Soft Power
Al-Dossari emphasized that international graduates from Saudi universities will become ambassadors for the Kingdom in their home countries, carrying with them a positive image of the educational experience and life in Saudi Arabia. This strengthens the Kingdom's soft power and builds bridges of communication and cooperation with various countries around the world. He explained that investing in international talent is an investment in the future, as these graduates contribute to enhancing economic and cultural relations between the Kingdom and their countries, thus bolstering Saudi Arabia's positive influence on the international stage.
In closing, the Minister of Information called for following the upcoming press conference of the Minister of Education, which will discuss in detail the education system in the Kingdom and the objectives of the “Study in Saudi Arabia” platform, stressing that this approach represents a confident step towards achieving global leadership in the field of higher education.
