Classes in Riyadh will be suspended tomorrow, Thursday, and will be conducted remotely via the Madrasati platform

The General Directorate of Education in the Riyadh region officially announced the suspension of in-person classes for tomorrow, Thursday, 27 Jumada al-Akhirah 1447 AH, based on reports received from the National Center for Meteorology, and out of concern for the safety of students and the educational and administrative staff.

The administration explained via its official account that the educational process will continue through the “My School” platform and other approved platforms for all male and female students, and male and female staff of schools in the city of Riyadh and its affiliated governorates, which include: Diriyah, Thadiq, Huraymila, Rumah, Dhurma, Al-Kharj, Al-Hariq, Al-Dilam, Al-Muzahmiya, Hawtat Bani Tamim, Al-Dawadmi, Afif, Al-Zulfi, Al-Majma’ah, Al-Ghat, and Shaqra.

The importance of weather warnings and dealing with weather conditions

This decision comes as an immediate response to warnings issued by the National Center for Meteorology, the official body authorized to monitor and track weather conditions in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The Kingdom's regions, particularly the central region, are experiencing seasonal weather fluctuations ranging from heavy rainfall that could lead to flash floods to dust storms that reduce horizontal visibility. These proactive reports play a vital role in enabling government agencies to take the necessary measures to protect lives and property. Suspending classes is a standard precautionary measure to reduce traffic congestion and protect students from the risks of commuting during severe rainfall.

My School platform: A digital infrastructure that ensures the continuity of education

The smooth transition from in-person to remote learning reflects the strength of Saudi Arabia’s digital infrastructure in the education sector. The “My School” platform has proven its high efficiency as a strategic option that ensures the continuity of the educational journey under any circumstances. This platform is a leading national model aligned with the goals of Vision 2030, providing students and teachers with interactive tools and virtual classrooms that simulate the school environment. This makes the decision to suspend in-person classes merely a change in the learning environment, not a halt to the educational process.

Safety First: A Ministry of Education Priority

The Ministry of Education places the safety of its students, teachers, and administrators at the forefront of its priorities. Regional education departments are working in continuous coordination with relevant authorities, such as the Civil Defense and the National Center for Meteorology, to assess potential risks. This decision underscores the resilience of the Kingdom's education system and its ability to adapt to unforeseen circumstances in the best interest of the public. The Ministry urges everyone to adhere to safety guidelines, remain at home during periods of unstable weather, and continue their studies through designated digital channels.
