Classes suspended in Sharurah and switched to the Madrasati platform due to bad weather
The General Directorate of Education in Najran region announced the suspension of in-person classes today, Wednesday, in all schools in Sharurah Governorate, based on reports received from the National Center for Meteorology, and out of concern for the safety of students and the educational and administrative staff.
Weather details and red alert
The National Center for Meteorology issued a red alert for the weather in Sharurah Governorate, warning of a dust storm that will reduce horizontal visibility to one kilometer or less, accompanied by strong winds. The center explained that these weather conditions will continue until 11:00 AM, necessitating immediate precautionary measures to ensure everyone's safety.
Continuation of the educational process via the Madrasati platform
The Najran Education Department confirmed that the suspension of in-person classes does not mean the cessation of the educational process. Instead, classes will be shifted to distance learning via the "My School" platform for all students and the "My Kindergarten" platform for children. Teachers will also continue working remotely. This measure is in line with the Ministry of Education's advanced technological systems, which ensure the continuity of education under various circumstances and emergencies.
Digital infrastructure and educational transformation
This smooth and flexible transition to e-learning reflects the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's success in building a robust digital infrastructure in the education sector. The "My School" platform has become a leading national model, ensuring that students' education is not disrupted by weather conditions or emergencies. This mechanism is part of the Ministry's strategy to promote blended and e-learning, which has proven its high efficiency in recent years, placing the Kingdom among the leading countries in managing educational crises.
Safety priority and decision-making mechanism
Decisions to suspend in-person classes are subject to a precise mechanism based on direct and continuous coordination between the Ministry of Education, the National Center for Meteorology, and public safety authorities. The Ministry grants education directors in regions and governorates the authority to suspend classes based on field data and meteorological reports, with the safety of school staff and students being the top priority. Sharurah Governorate, due to its desert location near the Empty Quarter, is among the areas that experience surface wind activity and occasional sandstorms, necessitating constant vigilance and continuous monitoring of weather conditions.
