Training environmental staff in Taif on designing irrigation networks for hydroponic agriculture
The Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture office in Taif the launch of a specialized training program aimed at enhancing the skills of its staff, titled “ Irrigation Network for Hydroponics.” This three-day program, conducted under the direct supervision of the Agricultural Training Center in the Jazan region, is part of a comprehensive plan for professional development and national capacity building.
The importance of the shift towards hydroponic farming
This course is of paramount strategic importance given the growing trend in Saudi Arabia towards adopting hydroponic farming technologies. These technologies offer a radical solution to the environmental and climatic challenges facing the agricultural sector in arid regions, contributing to water savings of up to 90% compared to traditional agriculture, in addition to their ability to double agricultural production in limited areas, thus strengthening the concept of national food security.
Training program details and technical topics
The program primarily aims to equip participants with the technical and theoretical skills necessary to design and implement modern irrigation networks. Course topics include:
- A comprehensive introduction to the different hydroponic farming systems and their components.
- Explaining the engineering principles for designing irrigation networks and calculating water requirements with high accuracy.
- Mechanisms for selecting the appropriate components for each agricultural system to ensure operational efficiency.
- Operating and periodic maintenance methods to ensure the sustainability of projects.
- Reviewing real-life experiences and success stories in this field to enhance the practical aspect.
Keeping pace with the goals of the Kingdom's Vision 2030
This training initiative is intrinsically linked to the broader context of Saudi Vision 2030, specifically the National Transformation Program and the Saudi Green Initiative. Through training its staff, the Ministry aims to cultivate a pool of national experts capable of transferring these modern technologies to farmers and investors, thereby contributing to the efficient use of natural resources, environmental protection, and enhanced economic efficiency in the agricultural sector.
The program affirms the Ministry’s continued commitment to enabling its employees to keep pace with the latest global technologies, which positively impacts the quality of services provided to beneficiaries and supports sustainable agricultural development in Taif Governorate and throughout the Kingdom.
