Tehran responds to US threats: Trump's statements will not intimidate us
Amid escalating tensions in the Middle East, Iran's Central Military Command downplayed US threats against Iran, particularly recent statements by US President Donald Trump. Tehran asserted that these remarks would have no impact on the morale or operational readiness of Iranian soldiers. This firm response comes after Washington threatened to target and destroy critical infrastructure in Iran, including bridges and power plants, within four hours.
Iranian state television broadcast a statement by Ebrahim Zolfaghari, spokesman for the Khatam al-Anbiya Headquarters, the central operations room of the Iranian armed forces. Zolfaghari emphasized that what he called the "insolent language and empty threats" of the US president would not impede the continuation of defensive and offensive operations carried out by Iranian forces to protect their national security against what they describe as American and Israeli hostility.
The historical context of US-Iranian tensions
These developments cannot be separated from the long historical context of the conflict between Washington and Tehran. Bilateral relations have deteriorated sharply since the United States unilaterally withdrew from the nuclear agreement in 2018 during Trump's first term. Since then, the US administration has pursued a policy of maximum pressure, including crippling economic sanctions targeting Iran's oil and banking sectors. This history of tensions makes the current escalation a new chapter in a complex series of geopolitical conflicts that cast a shadow over the stability of the entire region.
The Iranian proposal to end the war and its conditions
On the diplomatic front, Tehran is seeking a way out of the current crisis through indirect channels. An Iranian official revealed to The New York Times that Iran's proposal to end the war hinges primarily on obtaining strict international guarantees that would prevent any future attacks on Iranian territory. In a related development, Al Arabiya quoted informed sources as saying that the proposal includes key conditions, most notably the complete and comprehensive lifting of all economic sanctions imposed on Tehran, as well as an immediate halt to military strikes targeting Iran's allies in the region, particularly Hezbollah in Lebanon.
The event's impact regionally and internationally, and additional guarantees
On the other hand, an Iranian source told CNN that Tehran had provided additional assurances through an official letter delivered to the Pakistani government, which plays a crucial role in representing the interests of both countries and conveying diplomatic messages. The source emphasized that Iran genuinely desires to end the state of war and tension, but categorically rejects American dictates, both in terms of the methods Trump is pursuing and the timeframe he is attempting to impose.
The significance of this event extends beyond Iran's borders, impacting the entire international landscape. The military escalation in the Middle East, particularly the threat to strike power plants, is raising global concerns about the security of energy supplies and maritime traffic in the strategic Strait of Hormuz. These tensions are also directly reflected in global financial markets, where investors are flocking to safe havens like gold while cautiously awaiting the outcome of diplomatic efforts and ceasefire proposals.
