The Transport Authority warns 24,000 carriers to rectify their situations and avoid penalties

Intensive monitoring efforts to regulate the transport sector

In a strategic move aimed at regulating the transport and logistics sector in Saudi Arabia, the Public Transport Authority announced that it has issued warnings to more than 24,000 non-compliant carriers. This decisive regulatory step comes with a final opportunity for violators to rectify their situations before the actual application of legal penalties against them, reflecting the Authority's commitment to reforming the sector rather than simply issuing fines.

General context and Saudi Vision 2030

This stringent measure falls within the broader framework of the National Transport and Logistics Strategy, a key pillar of Saudi Vision 2030. Through this strategy, the Kingdom aims to solidify its position as a global logistics hub connecting three continents. To achieve this ambitious goal, the Public Transport Authority is working diligently and continuously to enhance safety standards, improve the quality of services provided, and ensure a fair and competitive environment that attracts both local and international investment in this vital sector.

Details of control processes and compliance rates

According to official statistics issued by the Authority, intensive monitoring campaigns were carried out, encompassing more than 434,000 field and technical inspections during March. These operations covered all land, sea, and rail transport activities across the Kingdom's various regions and cities. Specifically, the land transport sector accounted for the largest share with more than 425,874 inspections, followed by the sea transport sector with 8,268 inspections, in addition to monitoring visits to 77 stations in the rail sector.

These monitoring efforts have yielded positive indicators reflecting the extent to which establishments and individuals adhere to the approved regulations. Land transport recorded a high compliance rate of 91%, while maritime transport achieved 99%, and rail transport topped the list with a perfect 100% compliance rate. Despite these promising figures, the campaigns also resulted in the detection of more than 80,581 violations in land transport activities and only 8 violations in the maritime transport sector.

Expected impact at the local and international levels

These regulatory measures are of paramount importance and have a multifaceted impact. Domestically, they contribute to reducing traffic accidents, preserving road infrastructure, protecting consumers from substandard services, and fostering fair competition among licensed companies. Regionally and internationally, the Kingdom's commitment to implementing the highest standards of quality and safety in the transport sector enhances its ranking in the Logistics Performance Index (LPI), facilitating cross-border trade and attracting major international companies to invest in the Saudi market, thus underscoring the reliability and efficiency of the Kingdom's supply chains.

In conclusion, the Public Transport Authority affirms that the primary objective of these campaigns is to ensure the sustainability of the sector and to provide safe and efficient transport services to beneficiaries, calling on all carriers to expedite the correction of their situations and adhere to regulatory requirements.
