Intensive preparations to serve the pilgrims

As part of the intensive preparations for the Hajj season, and in affirmation of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's commitment to providing the highest quality services to pilgrims, the President of the Public Transport Authority, Engineer Fawaz bin Zanaaf Al-Sahli, conducted a field visit to assess the readiness of transportation services in Makkah and Jeddah. This inspection tour aimed to ensure the highest levels of compliance and service quality, and to enhance operational efficiency during the Hajj season, which witnesses the arrival of millions of Muslims from around the world to perform the rituals.

Historical context and development of the transportation system in Hajj

Historically, since its founding, the government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has placed great emphasis on developing infrastructure to serve pilgrims. Transportation has evolved dramatically over the decades, from facilitating caravans and paving roads to launching mega-projects such as the Haramain High-Speed Railway, which connects Mecca and Medina via Jeddah, and smart bus networks. This ongoing development aligns with the goals of Saudi Vision 2030, which aims to enrich the experience of pilgrims and facilitate their movement through an integrated and sustainable transportation system.

Inspecting vital facilities in Jeddah Governorate

The field tour began in Jeddah, the main gateway for pilgrims arriving by air and sea. The visit included the intercity bus terminal, the Haramain High-Speed Railway station, and several car rental offices. The tour focused on ensuring the readiness of these services, compliance with regulations and requirements governing these activities, and monitoring the quality of services provided to pilgrims to guarantee a comfortable and safe travel experience from the moment they arrive.

Integrated services in the Holy Capital

In Mecca, the heart of the Hajj season, Engineer Al-Sahli inspected the readiness of buses transporting pilgrims at the Al-Shumaisi accommodation center. He reviewed the integrated operational and organizational arrangements related to managing transportation. The visit also included the Haramain High-Speed Railway station in Al-Rusaifah and the intercity bus terminal in the Jarwal area of the central district.

The tour didn't stop there; it also included the Kadi station, a vital hub for bus and taxi services. The availability of diverse transportation options was monitored, and the work of field inspection teams was evaluated to ensure carrier compliance, thus supporting the provision of safe and organized transportation services between key sites and the holy sites.

The regional and international importance of a successful Hajj season

The success of transportation plans during the Hajj season has not only a local impact but also a broad positive influence at the regional and international levels. Managing the movement of millions of pilgrims within a limited geographical area and a short timeframe is a Saudi success story that is being studied globally in the field of crowd management and logistics. This success reinforces the Kingdom's position as a leader of the Islamic world and reflects its exceptional ability to harness the latest technologies to serve humanity and ensure the safety of pilgrims coming from all over the world.

Hajj Media and Smart Solutions Forum

The tour also included a visit to the third edition of the Hajj Media Forum. During the visit, the delegation viewed the Public Transport Authority's participation within the transport and logistics system pavilion. The pavilion showcased the Authority's and other relevant entities' key efforts, highlighting technological and regulatory initiatives, smart solutions, and modern transportation methods that directly contribute to improving services provided to pilgrims and enhancing the overall transportation experience.

Government sorting and integration points

The President of the Public Transport Authority concluded his tour with a visit to the screening points and transport service locations at Miqat Al-Sayl Al-Kabir and the Al-Bahita Security Center. This visit aimed to review the progress of work and operational efficiency at sites related to receiving pilgrims and organizing their transportation. These efforts highlight the high level of integration and coordination among the various governmental and security agencies involved in serving the pilgrims and ensuring smooth traffic flow and their safety throughout the Hajj season.
