Tunisia's friendly match schedule in preparation for the 2026 World Cup

The Tunisian Football Federation officially announced on Tuesday the comprehensive preparation program for the national team ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico from June 11 to July 19. This announcement puts an end to speculation surrounding the "Eagles of Carthage's" preparations for the world's biggest football event.

North American Camp: Adapting to the Atmosphere

In a strategic move aimed at acclimatizing to the climate and time zone in North America, the Tunisian national team's coaching staff has decided to begin preparations with friendly matches in Canada. The team will kick off its campaign against Haiti on March 28 in Toronto, followed by a tough match against the host nation, Canada, on March 31. These matches are considered an ideal opportunity for the players to familiarize themselves with the stadiums and atmosphere that will host part of the World Cup tournament.

Strong European tests before the starting whistle

Preparations won't be limited to the American camp, as the Tunisian national team will return to Europe to conclude its preparations with high-profile matches. The federation confirmed that the team will face Austria in Vienna on June 1st, before traveling to Brussels to meet the star-studded Belgian national team on June 6th. The matches against Belgium and Austria will be a true test of Tunisia's defensive and offensive capabilities against well-organized European footballing styles, mirroring the playing style of their group stage opponents.

Group F challenges and the Eagles' ambitions

These friendly matches are of paramount importance given the difficulty of the group Tunisia has been drawn into. The "Eagles of Carthage" are in Group F alongside the formidable Netherlands, the improving Japan, and another opponent yet to be determined. Therefore, the selection of teams like Belgium, Austria, and Canada was not arbitrary; it was a deliberate choice to study playing styles similar to those of Tunisia's World Cup opponents.

Tunisia and the history of World Cup participation

The Tunisian national team aims to break its group stage curse in its upcoming participation in the 2026 World Cup, a curse that has plagued it in its previous appearances (1978, 1998, 2002, 2006, 2018, 2022). Tunisian fans hope the team will capitalize on its high morale and the experience gained by the players, especially after their impressive performance in the 2022 Qatar World Cup and their historic victory over France, to achieve an unprecedented feat by advancing to the knockout stages and bringing honor to Arab and African football in this global tournament, which will feature 48 teams for the first time.
