Saudi Arabia weather: Rain in Tabuk and dust in Najran today

Introduction to the weather conditions in the Kingdom

The weather in Saudi Arabia is experiencing significant fluctuations during this period, with the National Center for Meteorology continuing its diligent efforts to monitor climate changes and issue early warnings to ensure the safety of citizens and residents. These warnings are part of the ongoing efforts to mitigate the negative impacts of extreme weather phenomena, whether heavy rainfall or sandstorms that affect horizontal visibility and transportation.

Moderate rain and flash floods hit the Tabuk region

In its latest update, the National Center for Meteorology issued an important alert for the Tabuk region, specifically the city of Tabuk and the Tayma governorate. The center forecasts moderate rainfall accompanied by various weather effects, including strong winds that could reduce horizontal visibility to near zero. The center also warned of the possibility of hail, flash floods in valleys and ravines, and thunderstorms. The center indicated that this unstable weather condition is expected to continue, God willing, until 11:00 PM this evening.

These rains are of great importance to the Tabuk region in the northwest of the Kingdom, as they contribute to replenishing groundwater and supporting the vegetation and agriculture for which the region is renowned. However, the region's geography, characterized by numerous valleys, necessitates extreme caution from residents and travelers to avoid the dangers of flash floods that can form rapidly.

Active winds and dust storms in the Najran region

Meanwhile, in the south of the Kingdom, the National Center for Meteorology warned of blowing dust and sandstorms affecting the Najran region. This includes the city of Najran and the governorates of Badr Al-Janoub, Thar, Khubash, and Habuna. These conditions are accompanied by active surface winds that will significantly reduce horizontal visibility, with visibility expected to range between one and three kilometers. The center indicated that this dusty situation will continue until 7:00 PM today.

Dust storms are a common weather phenomenon in some regions of the Kingdom, directly impacting traffic and land navigation. They also pose a health challenge, especially for people with respiratory conditions such as asthma and allergies, necessitating preventative measures like wearing masks and staying indoors as much as possible during peak dust storms.

Safety and Civil Defense Guidelines

Amid these weather fluctuations, the General Directorate of Civil Defense reiterates its ongoing warnings to exercise caution. It emphasizes the importance of staying away from valleys and flood channels, and avoiding crossing them during rainfall. It also advises drivers to be extremely careful, maintain a safe distance between vehicles, and use headlights when driving in low visibility conditions, whether due to heavy rain in Tabuk or dust storms in Najran. Adhering to official instructions and staying updated by the National Center for Meteorology remains the best way to ensure everyone's safety.
