Foreign ministers of 8 countries warn of a Gaza catastrophe and aid shortages

The foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia and seven other countries expressed their deep concern over the rapidly deteriorating humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip, warning of the catastrophic consequences of the continued lack of relief and medical aid in light of the ongoing blockade and military operations.
Warnings of imminent famine and collapse of the health system
In their joint statement, the ministers affirmed that the continued closure of crossings and obstruction of humanitarian aid convoys places hundreds of thousands of civilians, particularly children and women, at real risk of famine and the spread of disease. The statement noted that the limited quantities of aid entering the Gaza Strip do not meet the minimum basic needs of the population, who are suffering from forced displacement and widespread destruction of infrastructure.
This warning comes at a time when UN reports indicate a near-total collapse of the health system in the sector, with most hospitals out of service due to fuel and medical supplies shortages, making the treatment of the wounded and sick almost impossible.
Context of the crisis and historical background
These diplomatic moves come amid ongoing efforts since the outbreak of war in October 2023, which has seen unprecedented destruction of residential units and public facilities in the Gaza Strip. The ministerial committee established by the joint Arab-Islamic summit is working tirelessly to garner international support for a ceasefire, emphasizing that a military solution will not bring stability to the region.
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and its partner countries have always called for a return to the path of a just and comprehensive peace, based on international legitimacy resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative, which would guarantee the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
Regional and international influence and the continuation of diplomatic efforts
The repercussions of the crisis in Gaza are not limited to the humanitarian sphere; they extend to pose a threat to regional security and stability. Ministers warned that continued violence could lead to a wider conflict in the Middle East, necessitating immediate intervention from the Security Council and the international community to uphold their legal and moral responsibilities.
The ministers stressed their categorical rejection of any attempts at the forced displacement of Palestinians within or outside the Gaza Strip, considering it a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law. Intensive diplomatic efforts continue to pressure all parties to ensure the opening of safe and sustainable humanitarian corridors, allowing for the unimpeded flow of aid to save innocent lives that are paying the price for this bloody conflict.
