Vincent Kompany: YouTube videos embarrassed me in front of my children

In a candid admission that reflects the human side behind the coach's strict personality, Belgian Vincent Kompany, the current manager of German club Bayern Munich, revealed an embarrassing situation he faced inside his home and in front of his children, and the reason for this is due to old videos of him that are circulating on the “YouTube” platform.

Digital archive haunts the young coach

Kompany spoke candidly about the challenges that modern technology and digital archives pose to public figures, noting that videos documenting his outbursts of anger and his verbal abuse of players during his previous coaching stints, specifically with Belgian club Anderlecht and English club Burnley, have put his educational credibility at stake.

These clips mostly come from the extensive media coverage and documentaries that accompanied his career, such as the documentary series that chronicled Burnley's rise, in which Kompany appeared in moments of extreme emotion shouting at his players to motivate them, using harsh language that shocked some fans when it was first shown last year.

The dilemma of education and role modeling

In recent press statements, the former defensive legend explained that his children had accessed those videos via YouTube, putting him in an unenviable position. Kompany said, "I don't use those swear words much anymore, but the problem is that my children saw me swearing in those videos." He added, expressing the contradiction he's experiencing, "This doesn't put me in a strong position at home when I'm trying to raise them or guide them on what to say and what not to say. How can I tell them not to do something they saw me doing?".

Between the rigidity of the past and the pressures of Bayern Munich

On a professional level, Kompany confirmed that he has been working hard to tone down his language and control his emotions since taking over as manager of the Bavarian giants in the Bundesliga. However, he also issued a veiled warning to his players that despite his efforts to remain calm, he will not tolerate any laxity or unacceptable behavior that harms the team's interests.

This comes at a time when Kompany faces enormous challenges, having moved from the struggling environment of Burnley to the perennial title-chasing Bayern Munich. Known for his strong leadership style, which he draws heavily from his former coach Pep Guardiola at Manchester City, Kompany is attempting to balance this with maintaining a dignified image befitting the stature of the German club and avoiding any future family embarrassment.
