Al-Raed club appeals the decision not to grant it a local license for the new season
Al-Raed Club expressed its deep surprise at the decision of the Saudi Arabian Football Federation's Club Licensing Committee to deny it a local license for the new season. The club confirmed it will take all necessary legal measures to appeal the decision through the official appeals process. In an official statement published on its social media platform, the club explained that it had worked diligently to fulfill all the criteria and requirements stipulated in the approved licensing regulations, whether organizational, administrative, financial, or legal.
The statement read: “The club’s management has worked diligently over the past period to complete all organizational and administrative aspects, in compliance with the required standards, and confirms that the club has fulfilled all the necessary conditions for obtaining the license.” The statement added that the club’s management “will submit a formal appeal within the prescribed timeframe, while maintaining its full right to review the decision,” emphasizing its continued commitment to working with transparency and professionalism to serve the club and its fans, and to strive to achieve their aspirations on all levels.
The general context of the licensing system in Saudi football
This decision comes as part of the Saudi Arabian Football Federation's efforts to raise the level of governance and professionalism in sports clubs, in line with the standards of the Asian Football Confederation. The club licensing system is a key tool to ensure the sustainability of clubs and their ability to meet their financial and administrative obligations. The system includes strict criteria related to stadium infrastructure, financial matters (such as the absence of outstanding debts), administrative structure, and youth development programs. Obtaining a license is not merely a formality; it is a prerequisite for participating in local and continental competitions and aims to create a stable and professional sporting environment.
The importance of the decision and its expected impact
The decision not to grant a license to a long-established club like Al-Raed carries significant weight on several levels. Locally, the decision places considerable pressure on the club's management to prove its legal position during the appeals process, and the lack of a final license could affect the club's ability to register new players or participate in certain tournaments. The decision also sends a firm message from the Saudi Arabian Football Federation to all clubs that the application of regulations and standards is without exception, thus strengthening the football system. Regionally, this development reflects the Kingdom's commitment to developing its sports sector within the framework of Vision 2030, which aims to make the Saudi League one of the best leagues in the world, not only technically but also administratively and financially. Strictly applying these standards enhances the credibility of the Saudi League on the international stage and attracts more investment and sponsorships.
It is worth mentioning that the Club Licensing Committee had revealed the list of clubs that obtained the local license to participate in the Yellow League for First Division Clubs, and the name of Al-Raed Club did not appear in it, which sparked this controversy that is expected to be resolved by the Appeals Committee in the coming days.
