Saudi Meteorology: Rain in Al-Baha, winds in Tabuk, and important warnings

The National Center for Meteorology issued urgent weather alerts today regarding expected conditions across various parts of Saudi Arabia, noting weather fluctuations directly affecting the Al-Baha and Tabuk regions. These alerts are part of the center's ongoing and meticulous monitoring of weather changes to ensure the safety of citizens and residents.

Weather details for the Al-Baha region

In the Al-Baha region, the center warned of varying intensities of rainfall, accompanied by active winds that may stir up dust and sand in some areas, in addition to significantly reducing horizontal visibility. The report also indicated the possibility of thunderstorms, urging caution. This weather pattern includes several vital governorates, including Baljurashi, Al-Qura, Bani Hassan, and Al-Mandaq, as well as surrounding areas. The center clarified that this rainy weather is expected to continue, God willing, until 7:00 PM this evening.

Active winds and sea waves in Tabuk

In the Tabuk region, the center issued a warning regarding coastal areas, indicating that the governorates of Al Wajh, Umluj, Duba, and Neom Sharma are expected to experience significant surface wind activity. The center explained that wind speeds could reach between 40 and 49 kilometers per hour, which will consequently lead to higher waves and rough sea conditions, as well as reduced horizontal visibility due to suspended dust. These effects are expected to continue until 6:00 PM.

Geographical context and the importance of early warnings

These warnings are particularly important given the geographical nature of the affected areas. The Al-Baha region, situated on the Sarawat Mountains, is characterized by its rugged terrain and steep slopes, making rainfall a factor that can cause flash floods in valleys and ravines. This necessitates extra caution from hikers and those using mountain roads. Conversely, the Tabuk coast is a vital artery for navigation and fishing, in addition to hosting major tourism and economic projects such as NEOM and the Red Sea Project. Consequently, high waves and strong winds directly impact maritime activities and construction projects.

The role of meteorology and public safety

The role of the National Center for Meteorology is an integral part of the Kingdom's public safety system. These proactive reports enable relevant authorities, such as Civil Defense and Highway Patrol, to take necessary precautions. In such conditions, the General Directorate of Civil Defense typically advises people to stay away from valleys and flood channels, avoid crossing them while they are flowing, and adhere to safety instructions disseminated through official media outlets and social media platforms to ensure the safety of lives and property.
