Today's weather: Thunderstorms and fog in parts of the Kingdom
The National Center for Meteorology in Saudi Arabia, in its ongoing daily report monitoring weather fluctuations, revealed details of 's weather conditions , indicating the continuation of unstable weather affecting large parts of the Kingdom. These forecasts are part of the Center's close monitoring efforts to ensure the safety of citizens and residents and to alert them to potential weather phenomena.
Rain and thunderstorm forecast
The report indicated that the chance of thunderstorms with moderate to heavy rainfall remains, accompanied by surface winds that may stir up dust and sand before the rain. This weather pattern will affect the southern and western highlands, specifically parts of the Jazan, Asir, and Al-Baha , and extends to parts of the Makkah and Madinah . This weather activity is attributed to the geographical nature of these areas and the Sarawat Mountains, which contribute to lifting humid air and cloud condensation.
Warnings of fog and reduced visibility
In a related development, the National Center for Meteorology warned of another weather phenomenon affecting horizontal visibility, with the possibility of dense fog forming during the early morning and late night hours. The fog is expected to affect parts of the Riyadh, Eastern Province, Northern Borders, Al-Jawf, and Tabuk regions . This phenomenon is common at this time of year due to high relative humidity and low minimum temperatures, necessitating caution while driving on highways and open roads.
State of the Red Sea and the Arabian Gulf
Regarding maritime navigation, the report detailed the state of the Red Sea, where surface winds are shifting from northwesterly to northerly at speeds ranging between 10-32 km/h on the northern and central parts, while they are southeasterly to easterly on the southern part at speeds that may reach 50 km/h, especially towards the Bab al-Mandab Strait, which leads to waves rising to more than two meters and the sea becoming rough in that area.
In the Arabian Gulf, surface winds are variable in direction, with speeds ranging from 10-30 km/h, and wave heights ranging from half a meter to one meter, making the sea state light and suitable for normal marine activities.
The importance of following weather forecasts
These reports are of paramount importance both locally and in terms of public services. Security and traffic authorities, such as Civil Defense and Highway Patrol, rely on them to issue proactive warnings to regulate traffic and prevent accidents caused by water slippage or poor visibility due to fog. The relevant authorities urge everyone to stay updated on the latest weather conditions through official channels and to avoid valleys and floodplains in areas experiencing rainfall.
