Today's weather: Thunderstorms and flash floods in Riyadh and the Eastern Province

The National Center for Meteorology issued its daily weather for Thursday in Saudi Arabia, indicating that the unstable weather conditions affecting a wide area of the country will continue. The report included important warnings for citizens and residents to exercise caution due to the rapidly changing weather patterns.

Rain and flood forecast

In detail, the center predicted continued thunderstorms ranging from moderate to heavy, which could lead to flash floods in valleys and ravines. This weather system will be accompanied by hail and strong winds that will stir up dust and sand, significantly reducing horizontal visibility. The impact of this severe weather system will be concentrated in parts of the Riyadh and Eastern .

Rain is also expected, ranging from light to moderate, in parts of Makkah, Al-Baha, Asir, and Jazan regions, as well as parts of Al-Qassim, the Northern Borders, Al-Jawf, and Tabuk regions. The report also noted the possibility of dense fog forming during the night and early morning hours in parts of these regions, as well as in parts of Madinah and Hail regions, urging caution while driving on highways.

The importance of warnings and the impact of weather conditions

These forecasts come as part of the National Center for Meteorology's ongoing monitoring of weather fluctuations and its efforts to protect lives and property. This time of year is typically a period of active weather in the Kingdom, with the region experiencing low-pressure systems that bring rainfall, promising a good spring season and aiding in the irrigation of vegetation and crops. However, this also necessitates strict adherence to safety guidelines.

In such circumstances, the General Directorate of Civil Defense usually issues repeated warnings calling on everyone to stay away from places where water collects, valleys and dams, and not to risk crossing torrents no matter how low the water level is, as torrents pose a real and sudden danger in desert and open areas.

Red Sea situation

The report detailed the navigation and wave patterns in the Red Sea as follows:

  • Surface winds: Northwesterly to northerly in the northern and central parts, and southeasterly to southerly in the southern part at a speed of 15-38 km/h, and may reach a speed of 50 km/h with the formation of rain-bearing thunderclouds in the southern part.
  • Wave height: ranging from half a meter to one and a half meters, and reaching more than two meters with the formation of rain-bearing thunderclouds in the south.
  • Sea state: Light to moderate waves, becoming rough with the formation of rain-bearing thunderclouds over the southern part.

Arabian Gulf situation
