Today's weather forecast: Thunderstorms and winds across parts of the Kingdom
The National Center for Meteorology issued its daily report on weather conditions on Wednesday in various regions of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, indicating the continuation of the unstable weather conditions characterized by rainfall and surface wind activity.
Rain forecast and weather phenomena
thunderstorms remains , accompanied by hail and strong winds that will reduce horizontal visibility. This weather pattern will affect large parts of the Jazan, Asir, Al-Baha, and Makkah , and extend to parts of the Riyadh, Qassim, and Eastern Province . The center also warned of the possibility of dense fog forming over the mountainous areas in these regions, urging caution while driving.
Dust-raising winds
In a related context, the report indicated the continued impact of active winds stirring up dust and sand, which may significantly reduce horizontal visibility in parts of the Madinah, Tabuk, Al-Jawf, Hail, and Northern Borders . These weather phenomena are part of the usual climatic fluctuations at this time of year, as different air masses interact, causing wind activity and temperature changes.
Climate context and the importance of warnings
These reports are of paramount importance given the Kingdom's geography, where the southern and western regions are affected by seasonal low-pressure systems that bring heavy rainfall, contributing to flash floods in valleys and wadis. Relevant authorities, including the Civil Defense, urge citizens and residents to stay away from floodplains and wadi beds during these rainy periods and to adhere to public safety guidelines.
Red Sea situation
Regarding the sea conditions, the center explained that surface winds over the Red Sea will be westerly to northwesterly in the northern and central parts at speeds ranging from 15 to 45 km/h, while they will be southeasterly to easterly in the southern part at speeds of 12 to 38 km/h, potentially reaching 50 km/h towards the Bab el-Mandeb Strait. Wave heights will range from half a meter to one and a half meters, potentially reaching two and a half meters towards the strait, resulting in calm to moderate sea conditions, becoming rough in the south.
Arabian Gulf situation
As for the Arabian Gulf, forecasts indicate that surface winds will be southeasterly to southerly at speeds of 15-40 km/h, reaching up to 50 km/h with the formation of rain-bearing thunderstorms over the northern part. Meanwhile, winds will be southeasterly to easterly at speeds of 12-28 km/h over the central and southern parts. Wave heights are expected to range from half a meter to one and a half meters, reaching over two meters in the northern part with thunderstorms, making the sea moderate to rough in those areas.
