Weather forecast for Saudi Arabia today, Sunday: Rain, dust, and strong winds

The National Center for Meteorology in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia issued its detailed daily report on the expected weather conditions for this Sunday, as the Kingdom’s atmosphere is witnessing significant weather fluctuations, including varying rainfall and widespread surface wind activity that stirs up dust and sand.

Weather details in the northern regions

According to weather forecasts, the northern regions of the Kingdom, specifically parts of Tabuk, Al-Jawf, and the Northern Borders, will be affected by strong, active winds. These winds will stir up dust and sand, significantly reducing horizontal visibility, potentially to near-zero visibility on highways and in open areas. The forecast also indicates a possibility of light rain in scattered areas of these regions, urging drivers to exercise caution.

Thunderstorms and rain in Riyadh, Mecca, and the Eastern Province

In a related development, thunderstorms accompanied by active winds that will reduce horizontal visibility are expected to continue across large parts of the Kingdom. This includes the Jazan, Asir, and Al-Baha regions, extending to parts of the Makkah and Riyadh regions, and reaching as far as the Eastern Province. These weather fluctuations reflect the Kingdom's significant climatic diversity, with the southwestern highlands affected by humid low-pressure systems, while the central and eastern regions are impacted by atmospheric instability.

Fog formation and conditions in the Red Sea and the Arabian Gulf

The report did not neglect to warn of the fog phenomenon that may affect visibility in the early morning and late night hours, as fog is expected to form over parts of the Hail, Qassim and Madinah regions, in addition to areas experiencing rainfall.

Regarding the situation in the Red Sea:

  • Surface winds: They will be northerly to northwesterly in the northern and central parts, while they will turn southeasterly and southerly in the southern part, with speeds reaching 50 km/h with thunderstorms.
  • Wave height: ranging from light to moderate, and may become rough in the southern part.

As for the Arabian Gulf:

  • Surface winds: characterized by fluctuation between southeasterly to southerly, turning northwesterly in the evening, with speeds that may exceed 50 km/h when thunderstorms are formed.
  • Sea conditions: The waves are expected to be moderate to rough, especially in the northern and central parts, with heights that may exceed two and a half meters.

The importance of warnings and the impact of weather

These reports are of paramount importance to citizens and residents, as weather conditions directly impact travel between cities, especially given the Kingdom's vast geographical area. Authorities consistently urge the public to stay updated on weather forecasts to avoid areas prone to flash floods or poor visibility, thereby enhancing public safety and reducing traffic accidents related to weather conditions.
