Yellow League results: Abha strengthens its lead and Al-Diriyah snatches second place
The curtain fell today on the sixteenth round of the First Division Professional Football League “Yello League”, in a round that witnessed exciting fluctuations in the top positions, and confirmation of Abha Club’s fierce desire to quickly return to the top league, as it succeeded in strengthening its lead in the standings, benefiting from the stumble of its direct competitors.
Abha continues to soar alone at the top
Abha continued their impressive winning streak, securing a crucial away victory against Al-Adalah with a score of 2-1. This valuable win boosted the "Leader of the South's" points tally to 39, maintaining their sole lead at the top of the table and widening the gap with their closest rivals. Meanwhile, Al-Adalah's points total remains at 13, leaving them in the relegation zone in 15th place. This performance demonstrates the technical and administrative stability that Abha has enjoyed this season.
The battle for second place and the heated competition
The round witnessed a shift in the promotion race, as Al-Diriyah returned to winning ways with a 2-0 victory over Al-Anwar, bringing their points tally to 33 and propelling them to second place. This rise came as Al-Orouba suffered a surprising 3-0 home defeat to Jeddah, dropping to third place with the same number of points (33) but a lower goal difference. Jeddah, meanwhile, climbed to seventh place with 25 points.
In a related context, Al-Bukairiyah achieved a valuable victory over Al-Faisaly (2-1) to reach 32 points in fourth place, keeping the pressure on the top three, while Al-Faisaly remained eighth with 23 points.
Peseiro's fingerprint is evident with Al-Ula
In a notable event this round, Al-Ula FC secured their first victory under the guidance of their experienced Portuguese coach, José Peseiro, with a resounding 3-0 win over Al-Jubail. Al-Ula's win lifts them to fifth place with 30 points, underscoring their determination to compete strongly for promotion, benefiting from Peseiro's extensive experience in Saudi and Arab football. Meanwhile, Al-Jubail's situation worsens as they remain in seventeenth place with only 5 points.
Results of the remaining matches and the race for top scorer
The remaining matches saw mixed results, with Al-Jabalain returning with a 2-0 victory from Al-Arabi's stadium, Al-Raed losing to Al-Zulfi 1-2, and Al-Tai crushing Al-Batin 5-1. The match between Al-Wahda and Al-Jandal ended in a 1-1 draw.
On the individual front, Abha striker “Cilaso” continues to deliver amazing performances, as he strengthened his lead in the top scorers list with 16 goals, followed by Gaetan Laborde (Al-Diriyah) and Efthimios Koulouris (Al-Ula) with 13 goals each, which ignites the competition for the Golden Boot title in parallel with the promotion struggle.
The Yellow League matches are gaining increasing importance season after season, due to the great support that the first division clubs receive, and the rising market value of players and coaches, which has made the struggle for qualifying positions for the Roshan Professional League more fierce and intense than ever before.
