Yemeni MPs praise the Kingdom's stance and call for an end to the escalation
The Yemeni Parliament, in an official statement, praised the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's steadfast positions on the Yemeni issue, commending the statement issued by the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs which emphasized the necessity of preserving Yemen's security, stability, unity, and territorial integrity. The Parliament considered this stance consistent with the Kingdom's long-standing support for the Yemeni people throughout various historical phases and turning points, and its consistent efforts to bridge divides and unify the Yemeni people.
Supporting the decisions of the Presidential Leadership Council
In a related development, the House of Representatives announced its full and unequivocal support for all measures and decisions issued by the Presidential Leadership Council and its chairman, including the declaration of a state of emergency and the measures taken by the National Defense Council. The House affirmed that these steps are necessary constitutional and legal measures aimed primarily at protecting the state, maintaining public order, and ensuring the continued operation of government institutions in the interim capital, Aden, and the liberated governorates.
Background of events and the importance of stability
These developments come at a sensitive time for Yemen, as the legitimate government, supported by the Saudi-led coalition, seeks to normalize economic and service conditions. Observers note that any internal military escalation among anti-Houthi factions serves the interests of the rebel militias and weakens the internal front. Unity in the liberated governorates is a fundamental pillar stipulated in the Riyadh Agreement and the Yemeni-Yemeni consultations sponsored by the Gulf Cooperation Council, which led to the formation of the Presidential Leadership Council as an umbrella organization for all national forces.
Call for the Transitional Council to withdraw
In a firm tone, the Yemeni Parliament called on the Southern Transitional Council to immediately cease all illegal military movements and withdraw unconditionally from the sites, camps, and state institutions it recently seized. The statement emphasized the necessity of full compliance with the decisions and directives of the Presidential Leadership Council, as the supreme executive authority and the sole internationally recognized legitimate body, warning against resorting to force to impose a new reality.
Transitional and deepening divisions
The statement, which was broadcast by the official Yemeni news agency (Saba), indicated that: “What the Transitional Council has done with the support of external parties does not serve the path of building the state, nor does it achieve the desired stability. Rather, it undermines the political efforts made to end the war, deepens societal and political divisions, and weakens state institutions, which harms the supreme national interest of Yemenis.”.
Message to regional partners
The House of Representatives concluded its statement by calling on the United Arab Emirates to be an active part of the solution and to assist the Yemeni people in overcoming their successive crises. The House appealed to its brothers in the UAE to safeguard the national security of their partners in the Gulf Cooperation Council, particularly the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Sultanate of Oman, stressing the urgent need for swift coordination to ensure regional stability and spare Yemen further entanglement in conflicts.
