Zamzam water distribution ready for Ramadan 1447: Pumping 50 million liters daily

With the approach of the holy month of Ramadan 1447 AH, and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia preparing to welcome millions of pilgrims and visitors from around the world, the National Water Company, the official operator of the King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Zamzam Water Project, announced that it has raised its readiness to the highest level to ensure the delivery of blessed water to all those visiting the Two Holy Mosques. These preparations are part of an integrated service system aimed at facilitating the performance of rituals and providing the utmost comfort for the pilgrims.

Strategic reserves and continuous supply to the Two Holy Mosques

The project management unveiled a comprehensive operational plan that includes securing a massive strategic reserve of over 2.2 million bottles ready for distribution. To ensure an uninterrupted supply of blessed water in the courtyards of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet's Mosque, it was decided to pump enormous quantities, reaching 50 million liters daily, through advanced and hygienically safe transportation networks. This continuous pumping covers all drinking points and fountains located throughout the courtyards and expansions, reflecting the scale of the logistical efforts undertaken to accommodate the anticipated influx of visitors during the holy month.

King Abdullah's Zamzam Water Project: A Historic Milestone

To understand the magnitude of this achievement, it is essential to acknowledge the historical significance of the King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Zamzam Water Project, located in the Kadi area of Mecca. Prior to its establishment, the bottling and distribution of Zamzam water were carried out using traditional methods, often haphazardly. The establishment of this project marked a global transformation, transforming the facility into the primary center for the production and bottling of Zamzam water according to the highest international standards. This eliminated the black market and unsanitary practices, ensuring that pure and blessed water reaches every pilgrim.

Smart technologies and uncompromising quality

In preparation for Ramadan, the project has increased its daily production capacity to 200,000 five-liter bottles. This process is fully automated, with no human hands touching the bottles from the moment the water is drawn from the well until the bottle is sealed, ensuring the highest levels of sterilization. Alongside production, the project's central laboratory serves as the first line of defense for public health, with technical teams conducting over 400 rigorous laboratory tests daily to confirm the water's safety and freedom from any contaminants, adhering to strict quality protocols.

Digital integration and broad geographical distribution

The efforts extended beyond production to include facilitating access to water for beneficiaries. More than 750 strategically located sales outlets across the Kingdom were established to ensure the availability of Zamzam water bottles for citizens and residents, not just those in the vicinity of the Grand Mosque. The project also aligned with the Kingdom's digital transformation by integrating with the "Nusk" app, enabling pilgrims to easily order smaller (330 ml) bottles – a step aimed at managing crowds and improving accessibility.

Spiritual importance and Islamic dimension

Zamzam water holds a profound spiritual significance for Muslims worldwide, as it is said to be "for whatever purpose it is drunk for," according to tradition. Therefore, securing these millions of units is not merely an operational task, but a noble mission affirming the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's commitment to serving Islam and Muslims. These tremendous efforts translate the directives of the wise leadership to dedicate all material and human resources to ensure a safe and comfortable Ramadan season, where pilgrims can enjoy tranquility and quench their thirst from the blessings of the Holy Land.
