The President and CEO of Saudi Aramco, Amin Nasser, warned that the world is losing more than 100 million barrels per week as the closure of the Strait of Hormuz continues, noting that the market is losing about 11 million barrels per day of oil liquids due to the crisis.

He explained that oil flows through the strait do not exceed 10% of their levels before the Iran war, while the global refining system is under severe pressure.

Significant Global Loss

Nasser stated that the crisis has disrupted the arrival of more than 2.6 billion barrels to vital sectors, while the Saudi East-West pipeline and global inventories have helped reduce the net loss to about 1.8 billion barrels.

He pointed out that Asia’s crude imports fell by about six million barrels per day at the peak of the crisis, expecting that it would take 18 months to replenish the depleted inventories at a rate of 2.1 million barrels per day “even if Hormuz were opened today”.

Continuing Aramco Exports

Nasser confirmed that Aramco will continue to export about five million barrels per day, and that threats in the Red Sea have not affected its export volumes, explaining that the company is working on emergency plans related to the Red Sea and is exploring options to enhance its export capacity; including expanding the East-West pipeline and utilizing Bab el-Mandeb, the Suez Canal, the Sumed pipeline, and the Strait of Hormuz.

Limited Impact of Attacks

The CEO of Aramco emphasized that there is no significant operational or financial impact on the company from the targeting of facilities in July, indicating that the attacks may cause disruptions, but Aramco can restore its operations six times faster than its peers in the sector.

Financial Results Exceed Expectations

In terms of financial results, Aramco achieved profits that exceeded expectations, rising by about 42% year-on-year in the second quarter to 121.5 billion riyals, compared to an average analyst forecast of 115 billion riyals (Bloomberg).

The company clarified that the increase in net profit was driven by rising revenues and other income related to sales, while revenues grew by 19% to 450.77 billion riyals, supported by rising prices of refined products, chemicals, and crude oil.
