وبلغت مستويات تخزين الغاز في أوروبا نحو 59% حتى 10 أغسطس الجاري، ما يقلص هامش الأمان المتاح أمام أي صدمات محتملة في الإمدادات أو ارتفاعات حادة في الأسعار مع اقتراب موسم ذروة الطلب خلال الشتاء.
منافسة متزايدة
وتواجه الأسواق الأوروبية في الوقت نفسه منافسة متزايدة على شحنات الغاز الطبيعي المسال، ولا سيما مع سعي المشترين الآسيويين إلى تأمين إمدادات بديلة بعد تعطل صادرات قطر، التي تعد ثاني أكبر منتج للغاز الطبيعي المسال عالمياً.
وتفاقمت الضغوط على السوق الأوروبية مع ارتفاع الطلب على الغاز المستخدم في توليد الكهرباء لأغراض التبريد، نتيجة موجات الحر المتتالية، ما يزيد الحاجة إلى تعزيز المخزونات قبل دخول موسم الشتاء وارتفاع الطلب على التدفئة.
Concerns are growing about Europe’s ability to secure sufficient natural gas supplies before winter, amid the ongoing repercussions of the war in the Middle East and disruptions in shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, alongside a decline in storage levels to their lowest seasonal point since 2009.
Gas storage levels in Europe reached about 59% as of August 10, which reduces the safety margin available against any potential supply shocks or sharp price increases as the peak demand season approaches during winter.
Increasing Competition
At the same time, European markets are facing increasing competition for liquefied natural gas shipments, particularly as Asian buyers seek to secure alternative supplies following disruptions in Qatari exports, which is the world’s second-largest producer of liquefied natural gas.
Pressure on the European market has intensified with rising demand for gas used in electricity generation for cooling purposes, due to consecutive heatwaves, increasing the need to bolster stocks before entering the winter season and the heightened demand for heating.
