أكد مدرب فريق الخليج البرتغالي غوميز أن خسارة فريقه أمام الهلال بنتيجة 5-1 جاءت في ظل ظروف صعبة، مشيراً إلى أن ضغط المباريات كان العامل الأكبر في إرهاق لاعبيه.
وقال غوميز إن فريقه قدم شوطاً أول جيداً وحافظ على الكرة وصنع عددًا من الفرص، لكنه في الشوط الثاني لم يتمكن من الاستمرار بالمستوى نفسه. وأضاف: «في الشوط الثاني نافسنا بشكل أفضل، لكن الفارق كان في قدرتنا على المنافسة والقتال. يجب أن نكون أكثر شراسة، لأنه إذا لم ننافس فلن ننجح».
وأوضح المدرب البرتغالي أن الحديث عن حرارة ورطوبة شهر أغسطس لا يمثل عذرًا للخسارة، مؤكداً أن فريقه معتاد على هذه الظروف، لكن المشكلة تكمن في خوض المباريات كل يومين أو 3 أيام، خصوصًا أمام فريق بحجم الهلال.
ورفض غوميز فكرة خوض فرق المنطقة الشرقية مبارياتها خارج أرضها خلال أغسطس، قائلًا: «يجب أن نلعب في مدينتنا وأمام جماهيرنا، المشكلة ليست في ذلك، وإنما في ضغط جدول المباريات».
وأشاد غوميز في ختام المؤتمر الصحفي بالحضور الجماهيري رغم الأجواء السيئة، مؤكدًا أن الفريق سيكون أفضل في المستقبل.
The coach of Al-Khaleej, Portuguese Gomes, confirmed that his team’s loss to Al-Hilal with a score of 5-1 came under difficult circumstances, pointing out that the pressure of matches was the biggest factor in exhausting his players.
Gomes stated that his team had a good first half, maintained possession of the ball, and created several chances, but in the second half, they were unable to continue at the same level. He added, “In the second half, we competed better, but the difference was in our ability to compete and fight. We need to be more aggressive because if we don’t compete, we won’t succeed.”
The Portuguese coach clarified that discussing the heat and humidity of August does not serve as an excuse for the loss, affirming that his team is accustomed to these conditions, but the problem lies in playing matches every two or three days, especially against a team the size of Al-Hilal.
Gomes rejected the idea of teams from the Eastern Province playing their matches away from home during August, stating, “We should play in our city and in front of our fans; the problem is not that, but rather the pressure of the match schedule.”
In conclusion, Gomes praised the attendance of fans despite the bad weather, affirming that the team will be better in the future.
