وأفاد المعهد الإيطالي للجيوفيزياء وعلم البراكين -في بيان- أن الزلزال وقع على عمق 8 كيلومترات، وكان مركزه على بعد 7 كيلومترات من مدينة بيزا, وشعر به سكان فلورنسا.
من جهتها أشارت إدارة الحماية المدنية الإيطالية إلى أن التحقيقات الأولية، التي أجريت في أعقاب الهزة الأرضية، لم تكشف عن أي أضرار للأشخاص أو في الممتلكات.
