أعلن نادي أستون فيلا المنافس في الدوري الإنجليزي الممتاز، (الثلاثاء)، أنه أصبح بإمكانه تسجيل المهاجم برايان مادجو للمشاركة في المنافسات الرسمية، وذلك عقب قبول محكمة التحكيم الرياضية للاستئناف الذي تقدم به النادي ضد قرار الاتحاد الدولي لكرة القدم (فيفا) القاضي بمنع تسجيل اللاعب البالغ 17 عاماً، والذي انضم إلى الفريق قادماً من نادي ميتز.
وُلد مادجو في إنجلترا، لكنه نشأ في لوكسمبورغ، حيث شارك مع منتخبها الوطني في ثلاث مباريات خلال العام الماضي، قبل أن ينتقل لتمثيل منتخب إنجلترا تحت 17 عاماً.
وكان المهاجم، الذي يبلغ طوله 6 أقدام و4 بوصات (1.93 متر)، قد انضم إلى أستون فيلا في يناير الماضي قادماً من ميتز مقابل 10 ملايين جنيه إسترليني (13.44 مليون دولار). إلا أن «فيفا»، وبسبب القواعد المنظمة لانتقالات اللاعبين الذين تقل أعمارهم عن 18 عاماً على المستوى الدولي، رفض تسجيل مادجو، مبرراً قراره بكون اللاعب سبق له تمثيل لوكسمبورغ دولياً.
وتقدم أستون فيلا باستئناف أمام محكمة التحكيم الرياضية ضد قرار «فيفا»، مؤكداً أن مادجو وُلد في إنجلترا ويحمل الجنسية البريطانية.
وقال النادي عبر حسابه في منصة «إكس»: «قرار المحكمة اليوم يعني أن برايان سيتم تسجيله لاعباً في أستون فيلا، وسيكون قادراً على المشاركة في المباريات الرسمية خلال الموسم القادم».
ونجح مادجو في تسجيل أربعة أهداف خلال فترة التحضير للموسم الجديد حتى الآن، من بينها هدفان في المباراة الودية الأولى لأستون فيلا أمام وولسال.
ويستعد أستون فيلا لمواجهة باريس سان جيرمان، بطل دوري أبطال أوروبا، في مباراة كأس السوبر الأوروبية المقررة يوم 12 أغسطس الجاري.
Aston Villa, competing in the English Premier League, announced on Tuesday that it can now register striker Bryan Madjo to participate in official competitions, following the acceptance of the appeal submitted by the club against the decision of the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) that prevented the registration of the 17-year-old player, who joined the team from Metz.
Madjo was born in England but grew up in Luxembourg, where he represented their national team in three matches last year before moving to play for the England under-17 team.
The striker, who stands 6 feet 4 inches (1.93 meters) tall, joined Aston Villa last January from Metz for £10 million ($13.44 million). However, FIFA, due to the regulations governing the transfers of players under the age of 18 at the international level, refused to register Madjo, justifying its decision by stating that the player had previously represented Luxembourg internationally.
Aston Villa filed an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport against FIFA’s decision, asserting that Madjo was born in England and holds British nationality.
The club stated via its account on the platform “X”: “The court’s decision today means that Bryan will be registered as a player for Aston Villa and will be able to participate in official matches during the upcoming season.”
Madjo has successfully scored four goals during the preparation period for the new season so far, including two goals in Aston Villa’s first friendly match against Walsall.
Aston Villa is preparing to face Paris Saint-Germain, the UEFA Champions League champions, in the UEFA Super Cup match scheduled for August 12.
