وذكرت هيئة المسح الجيولوجي الأمريكية، أن الزلزال وقع على بعد 84 كيلومترًا جنوب غرب مدينة “نيكولسكي”، وعلى عمق 47.1 كيلومترًا.
وتقع ألاسكا فوق حزام النار بالمحيط الهادي، وهي منطقة التقاء صفائح تكتونية يؤدي احتكاكها ببعضها البعض إلى نشاط زلزالي.
