Trump informs FIFA president of his stance on Iran's participation in the World Cup

FIFA President Gianni Infantino explained in a post on his official Instagram account that he met with US President Donald Trump to discuss preparations for the 2026 World Cup, scheduled to be held in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. During the meeting, they also discussed the current situation regarding the Iranian national team after its official qualification for the World Cup. Infantino indicated that Trump welcomed Iran's participation in the tournament, like all other participating teams, despite the existing political tensions, according to a report by RT. Infantino added that the World Cup remains a significant global event, emphasizing that the world needs it now more than ever, as it represents an opportunity to unite people through sport.

Trump had previously stated that he did not care much about the possibility of the Iranian team being excluded from the tournament, considering that Iran was going through difficult circumstances and that its capabilities had become limited, as he put it.
