
Hajj season 1447 AH: 60 tunnels prepared and 330,000 lighting units activated in Makkah and the holy sites
The ministry explained that the work included upgrading 92 intersections within the bridge network, preparing 62 tunnels for pedestrians and vehicles, in addition to implementing ground and directional painting works that exceeded 110,000 linear meters, which contributes to improving the clarity of the paths and raising the level of traffic safety.
The ministry also enhanced the lighting network by operating more than 330,000 lighting units and 150,000 lighting poles in Makkah and the holy sites, creating a safer environment in areas of heavy traffic and along the main roads and axes leading to the holy sites, stressing the continuation of field follow-up and maintenance work around the clock to ensure the sustainability of the efficiency of the infrastructure and raise operational readiness during the Hajj season.
Supporting smooth navigation
As part of its operational plans for the 1447 AH Hajj season, the Ministry announced the construction of over 11 million linear meters of roads and the improvement and development of approximately 74 million square meters of road surfaces. It also highlighted the readiness of 123 bridges and 44 pedestrian and vehicular tunnels, enhancing traffic flow and facilitating movement in Makkah and the Holy Sites.
Furthermore, the Ministry, through its regional municipalities, mobilized over 4,500 male and female volunteers within the municipal volunteer system to serve pilgrims at key locations, entry points, and roads leading to the Holy Sites, supporting operational and service efforts throughout the season.
