Al-Ahsa: A woman in her forties was saved from severe uterine bleeding through medical intervention
A medical team at King Faisal General Hospital in Al-Ahsa successfully saved the life of a 41-year-old woman who arrived at the emergency department suffering from uterine bleeding. led to a sharp drop in blood pressure, a rapid heartbeat, and unstable vital signs.
The Al-Ahsa Health Cluster explained that the case necessitated the immediate activation of the rapid response team, who initiated resuscitation procedures and administered a blood transfusion. Tests revealed a dangerously low hemoglobin level, along with uterine enlargement and the presence of uterine fibroids.
Supportive therapies
The case was managed according to the intensive blood transfusion protocol, with the administration of supportive treatments and initial hemorrhage control via a delicate, conservative transcervical procedure. This contributed to stabilizing the patient's condition and allowing for advanced intervention. Urgent arrangements were made for uterine artery embolization following initial stabilization. Radiological examinations revealed uterine fibroid hyperplasia and prolapsed uterine fibroids.
After discussing treatment options, a conservative surgical intervention was decided upon. A successful fibroid resection was performed the following day, with necessary precautions taken to prevent recurrent bleeding, along with supportive diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
Follow-up treatment
The Health Cluster confirmed that the patient's condition stabilized completely after the procedure. She was returned to receiving the necessary treatment under the supervision of specialized teams and was discharged from the hospital in stable condition with a follow-up treatment plan.
This case reflects the integrated efforts between the emergency, obstetrics and gynecology, hematology, interventional radiology, anesthesiology, and laboratory departments, which enhances the quality of healthcare provided within the Al-Ahsa Health Cluster .
