Al-Hilal vs. Neom: The last chance to clinch the Roshan League title

A crucial encounter at the Kingdom Arena: Al-Hilal faces NEOM with the motto "Victory is the only option"

In one of the most crucial matches of the current football season, Al-Hilal's first team will host Neom FC this Saturday at 7:05 PM Mecca time. This highly anticipated encounter will take place at the Kingdom Arena, Al-Hilal's new home ground, as part of the 33rd and penultimate round of the Saudi Professional League. The match is of paramount importance given both teams' positions in the league standings, particularly for the home side.

The general and historical context of the heated competition

The current season of the Saudi Professional League is witnessing unprecedented competition, fueled by the tremendous development and massive sporting project that has captured the world's attention. Historically, the final stages of the Saudi league have always been a stage for excitement and fierce rivalry, especially when the battle is between the two giants of Riyadh. Al-Hilal enters today's match under immense pressure and with the motto "last chance," as there is no room for error if the Blue team wants to maintain its slim hopes of winning the domestic league title and continue the pressure and fierce competition with its traditional rival, Al-Nassr, until the final round of the competition.

Title race: A last-ditch battle between Al-Hilal and Al-Nassr

In terms of complex calculations, Al-Hilal needs to win and secure three points in its two remaining matches against Neom and Al-Fayha. But it doesn't stop there; Al-Hilal also hopes for a valuable gift: a stumble by league leaders Al-Nassr against Damac in the final round to guarantee the title. Conversely, any draw or loss for Al-Hilal in either match would officially crown Al-Nassr as Saudi Pro League champions. Al-Nassr currently tops the league table with 83 points from 33 matches, a full five points ahead of their closest rivals, Al-Hilal, who have played 32 matches so far.

A historic opportunity for victory on both the domestic and continental levels

Asian and Saudi football fans are eagerly anticipating a potential historic achievement for Al-Nassr. The Yellows could clinch two major titles in a single day (Saturday): the Saudi Professional League title and the AFC Champions League title. This dream scenario would materialize if Al-Hilal falters against Neom domestically, coinciding with Al-Nassr's victory over Japanese side Gamba Osaka in the continental final scheduled for this evening. Such a double triumph, if achieved, would significantly enhance the standing and regional and international influence of Saudi clubs on the global football stage.

Inzaghi warns of the dangers of Neom

On the technical side, Al-Hilal's coaching staff, led by coach Simone Inzaghi, is well aware of the difficulty of the task. Inzaghi emphasized the strength of the Neom team and their remarkable improvement, issuing a stern warning to his players not to underestimate their opponents. The coach said, "In their last seven matches, Neom have only lost once, which is a clear indication of their resilience. We must prepare ourselves thoroughly, both mentally and physically, to penetrate their defense.".

Neom enters the confrontation without pressure and with the ambition to prove itself

On the other side, Neom enters the match under the guidance of their experienced French coach, Christophe Galtier, with very high morale after securing a valuable 2-1 victory against Al-Shabab in the previous round. Neom currently occupies eighth place in a comfortable position in the standings with 44 points, having achieved 12 wins, 8 draws, and 12 losses, just 5 points behind Al-Ettifaq in seventh place.

During the pre-match press conference, Galtier spoke realistically and transparently, saying: “I watched the last Al-Hilal vs. Al-Nassr match, and the technical and tactical level of both teams was very high. Frankly, I don’t think Al-Hilal is the closest to winning the league this season, and I believe that Al-Nassr has the best and most favorable chances, especially with a relatively easy match remaining for them against Damac in the last round.”.

The French coach added, explaining his strategy: “We have thoroughly analyzed Al-Hilal’s performance in their last match against Al-Nassr. We will enter this difficult encounter without any psychological pressure, with a strong desire to deliver a positive and bright performance that reflects the team’s strengths, both individually and collectively. We will exert every effort to achieve the best possible result against a team of Al-Hilal’s caliber. We are fully aware of the importance of this match and its impact on the course of the tournament, so we will strive to perform at our best possible level.”.
