Al Wahda wins its appeal against Al Ola: Details of the Appeals and Sanctions Committee's decision

The Saudi Arabian Football Federation's Appeals Committee issued a decisive ruling in the legal dispute between Al-Wahda and Al-Ula clubs, within the framework of the 2025-2026 Yelo First Division Professional League. This decision brings to a close a period of anticipation that prevailed in sporting circles following the match between the two teams on January 22, 2026, thus confirming the Federation's commitment to applying regulations and bylaws to ensure fair competition.
Details of the Appeals Committee's decision to accept Al Wahda's protest
In an official statement, the committee announced the acceptance of the appeal submitted by the Al-Wahda Club administration, in form and substance, against the previous decision issued by the Disciplinary and Ethics Committee No. (241/L D/2026) dated January 29, 2026. According to the new decision No. (5/L E S/2026) issued on February 18, 2026, the initial ruling was overturned and Al-Wahda Club was vindicated based on the evidence and documents submitted that proved the validity of their legal position in the protest.
Reasons for the penalty and player Matija Nastasic's ineligibility
The Appeals Committee based its decision on Al-Ula Club's clear violation of subparagraph (3/1) of paragraph (1) of Article (58) of the Disciplinary and Ethics Regulations. The violation consisted of fielding the player Matija Nastasic in the match despite his ineligibility, a serious administrative error warranting punishment according to the regulations in force in Saudi football. Consequently, the Committee decided to nullify the original match result and award Al-Wahda Club a 3-0 victory, thus granting Al-Wahda three valuable points in their league campaign.
Financial and administrative penalties against Al-Ula Club
The decision not only deducted points and changed the result, but also included disciplinary and financial penalties to deter such violations in the future. The committee fined Al-Ula Club 37,500 Saudi Riyals. In addition, an administrative penalty was issued against the team manager, Mr. Mohammed Abdullah Sanitan Al-Mutairi, suspending him for two months from accompanying the team to all official matches. The club was also required to refund the protest and appeal fees to Al-Wahda Club.
The importance of the decision and its impact on competition in the Yellow League
This decision is of paramount importance in the context of the fierce competition in the Yelo First Division League, where the three points gained through disciplinary decisions are a significant factor in the standings, whether in the battle for promotion to the Professional League or to avoid relegation. This ruling reflects the strictness of the judicial committees within the Saudi Arabian Football Federation in dealing with administrative errors related to player registration and participation. It also underscores the necessity for club management to exercise the utmost diligence in reviewing player eligibility before matches to avoid losses that could undermine the team's efforts throughout the season.
