Jeddah Municipality: Maintenance of 7 million meters of roads in 2025

In a move reflecting a firm commitment to developing infrastructure and improving municipal services, the Jeddah Governorate Municipality revealed record achievements in the roads sector during 2025. The municipality announced the completion of comprehensive maintenance work covering a total area of 7 million square meters of roads throughout the governorate, as part of the approved operational plans to raise the efficiency of the urban network.
The achievement details in numbers
The annual report issued by the General Directorate of Operation and Maintenance provided detailed information on the scope of work completed, which included the maintenance of 7,044,513 square meters of main and secondary streets. The work was not limited to paving; it also extended to improving and developing sidewalks covering an area of 299,292 square meters, thus enhancing pedestrian traffic flow. The municipality also paid special attention to the lighting network, maintaining 56,619 light poles to ensure the safety of road users at night.
Context of Vision 2030 and the Quality of Life Program
These projects acquire strategic importance when viewed within the context of the Kingdom's Vision 2030, specifically within the objectives of the Quality of Life Program. Jeddah, as the gateway to the Two Holy Mosques and a major tourist and commercial hub on the Red Sea coast, requires robust infrastructure to keep pace with its growing population and active tourism. Developing road networks is a fundamental pillar in improving the urban landscape and addressing visual pollution, issues that the Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs and Housing prioritizes.
Economic and social impact
Maintaining and developing 7 million square meters of roads not only enhances the city's aesthetic appeal but also has significant economic and social dimensions. Economically, well-paved and efficient roads reduce vehicle maintenance costs for citizens and residents and facilitate the movement of goods and logistics, thus supporting commercial activity in the province. Socially, improving sidewalks and lighting contributes to the concept of "humanizing cities," encouraging residents to walk and enhancing traffic safety standards, thereby reducing accidents caused by road defects.
Sustainability of development and progress
The Jeddah Municipality confirmed that these projects were implemented according to the highest technical standards and within the framework of the Projects Agency's programs, relying on precise field monitoring mechanisms to identify and address any issues immediately. The Municipality emphasized its continued commitment to implementing periodic and preventative maintenance programs, affirming that developing the operation and maintenance system is an ongoing process aimed at ensuring the sustainability of the infrastructure and providing the best municipal services to the residents and visitors of the Red Sea city.
