1,778 BAIC BJ40 vehicles recalled due to brake defect – Ministry of Commerce

The Ministry of Commerce in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia announced a new recall campaign that includes 1,778 vehicles of the "BAIC BJ40" model, specifically the models that were produced between 2021 and 2025. This measure comes within the framework of the Ministry’s ongoing efforts to ensure consumer safety and the quality of vehicles traveling on the Kingdom’s roads.
Details of the technical malfunction and its risks
The ministry explained in its official statement that the recall was due to a technical defect in the brake booster. This defect could lead to a noticeable decrease in the braking system's efficiency while driving, requiring the driver to exert more effort to press the pedal to stop the vehicle. The ministry indicated that this reduced response could significantly increase the likelihood of traffic accidents, especially in emergency situations requiring sudden stops.
Procedures required from vehicle owners
The Ministry of Commerce called on all owners of "BAIC BJ40" vehicles included in this recall to take the following steps to ensure their safety:
- Checking inclusion: Visit the website of the Defective Products Recall Center "Recalls.sa" and enter the vehicle chassis number (VIN) to check if the vehicle is on the target list.
- Contacting the dealer: If the vehicle is covered, you must immediately contact Petromin Automotive, the local dealer for the brand, via the unified toll-free number 8004420020 .
- Free repair: The ministry confirmed that all necessary inspections and repairs will be carried out completely free of charge, without the consumer incurring any financial costs, including spare parts costs and labor costs.
The role of the call center and consumer protection
This recall is part of the Ministry of Commerce's rigorous oversight role, conducted in cooperation with manufacturers and their local agents. The "Recall" center is an integrated electronic platform designed to protect consumers by monitoring complaints of manufacturing defects and technical problems that may arise in products and goods, particularly vehicles. Regulations in the Kingdom require agents to report any manufacturing defect to the Ministry immediately upon discovery and to initiate an immediate corrective action.
The importance of responding to recall campaigns
Traffic safety experts emphasize the importance of not ignoring recall notices, especially those related to vital safety systems such as brakes and airbags. Responding promptly to these campaigns not only protects the driver and passengers but also contributes to enhancing overall road safety. The BAIC BJ40 is one of the most popular SUVs in the Saudi market, making it crucial to ensure the safety of its mechanical systems given its intended use, which may include off-road driving and long-distance travel.
