Femur deformity correction surgery at King Abdullah Medical City
King Abdullah Medical City in the Holy Capital, a member of the Makkah Health Cluster, has recorded a new medical achievement that adds to its record of successes in the field of specialized surgeries, as a medical team in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery succeeded in ending the suffering of a 27-year-old patient who was suffering from a complex deformity in the femur bone.
Details of the surgical procedure and the technique used
This rapid and effective medical intervention came within the framework of the "urgent care pathway," which is one of the cornerstones of the Kingdom's new healthcare model. The surgical team was led by consultant Dr. Mushir Al-Ziyadi, a specialist in bone deformities and lengthening, and employed an advanced surgical technique known as "Fixator-Assisted Plating.".
This technique is characterized by being a minimally invasive surgical approach, which significantly reduces damage to the soft tissues surrounding the bone. This method contributed to achieving precise correction of the deformity while preserving the bone's mechanical axis, which positively impacted the patient's functional outcomes, ensured an excellent cosmetic scar, accelerated recovery, and reduced the likelihood of postoperative complications.
The importance of achievement in the context of health transformation
This success is not merely a single surgical procedure; it reflects the significant advancements in the Saudi healthcare system. King Abdullah Medical City is a leading medical institution in the region, playing a pivotal role in providing specialized quaternary care. The availability of such expertise and advanced technologies within the Kingdom reduces the need to refer patients for treatment abroad, thereby enhancing spending efficiency and fostering a local understanding of specialized medical expertise.
Alignment with the Kingdom's Vision 2030
This achievement is perfectly aligned with the objectives of the Health Sector Transformation Program, one of the programs under the Kingdom’s Vision 2030, which aims to facilitate access to and improve the quality of healthcare services. The success of the “Urgent Care Pathway” highlights the effectiveness of the strategic plans implemented by the Makkah Health Cluster to ensure the provision of the best medical services to citizens, residents, and pilgrims to the Holy Mosque, thus solidifying the Kingdom’s position as a leading destination for advanced healthcare in the Middle East.
