The French consul: The Saudi league is global and home to football stars

The French Consul General, Mohamed Nihad, affirmed that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has successfully established itself firmly on the global sports map, praising the remarkable development of its sports infrastructure and world-class stadiums. Nihad explained that the quality of the stadium playing surfaces remains consistently excellent despite the climatic challenges of heat and humidity, reflecting the high level of professional work undertaken behind the scenes.

Global resonance and widespread reach in Europe

In an interview with Okaz newspaper, Nihad pointed out that the Saudi League (the Roshan League) is no longer just a local affair, but has become a focus of attention for fans in Europe, and France in particular. He said, "We are not surprised when we see the jersey of Al-Ittihad or other Saudi clubs in the streets of Paris," emphasizing that attracting international stars has given the competition significant market and technical value, and has earned it unprecedented international following.

This global interest is consistent with the great sporting movement that the Kingdom is witnessing within the objectives of Vision 2030, which has placed the sports sector as one of the pillars of diversifying the economy and enhancing the quality of life, which has contributed to attracting the world’s attention to the Saudi League as one of the fastest growing and developing leagues.

Infrastructure paving the way for the 2034 World Cup

The French consul addressed the Kingdom's hosting of major events, noting that the successful organization of global events such as the Dakar Rally, Formula 1, and the 2023 FIFA Club World Cup reflects the Kingdom's complete readiness. He added that these vast capabilities are the secret behind Saudi Arabia's winning bid to host the 2034 FIFA World Cup, as the Kingdom has demonstrated its ability to manage crowds and organize events to a high standard, which has been praised by French visitors.

Ambassadors of French football and the competitiveness of the league

Regarding the presence of French stars like Karim Benzema and N'Golo Kanté, Nihad described them as "ambassadors for France" in a friendly country, emphasizing that they received a warm welcome and generous hospitality from the Saudi people. The French consul strongly rejected the characterization of the Saudi league as a "retirement league," stressing that its competitiveness is very high and on par with major leagues, a fact evident to everyone in the high level of play during the matches.

Nihad concluded his remarks by praising the Kingdom's footballing history, recalling the Green Falcons' historic participation in the 1994 World Cup and their epic victory over Argentina in the 2022 World Cup. He believes Saudi Arabia possesses a passionate population and the necessary elements to create a fertile ground for a world-class league. Regarding his personal preferences, Nihad chose Saudi football legend Saeed Al-Owairan as his favorite player, and expressed his love for the French club Olympique Lyonnais.
