Roads Authority guidelines before traveling during the Eid al-Fitr holiday in the Kingdom

With the approach of the Eid al-Fitr holiday , Saudi Arabia's road network is experiencing heavy traffic and exceptional activity, as millions of citizens and residents prefer to travel between the Kingdom's cities and provinces to spend quality time with family and friends, or to visit local tourist destinations. In this context, the proactive efforts undertaken by the relevant authorities to ensure the safety and security of travelers are of paramount importance.

Early and intensive preparations by the Roads Authority

The General Authority for Roads announced the completion of all its preparations and operational plans to receive travelers during the Eid al-Fitr holiday. These preparations included raising the readiness of specialized technical and engineering staff to the highest level. These well-considered steps aim to ensure safe and smooth access for all road users, enhancing the travel experience and directly contributing to achieving the strategic objectives of the Kingdom's road sector program, which is a fundamental pillar in supporting economic growth and facilitating logistical operations.

Comprehensive survey of the national road network

As part of its early field work, the Authority explained that it conducted comprehensive surveys and assessments of the road network across all regions of the Kingdom, which is one of the largest and most interconnected in the Middle East, with a total length exceeding 73,000 kilometers. To ensure the highest quality standards, a dedicated team of more than 300 specialized engineers and supervisors was assigned to conduct on-site inspections of road conditions and verify the implementation of all traffic safety standards. This extensive effort reflects the Kingdom's commitment to providing advanced infrastructure that serves domestic travelers and facilitates regional travel with neighboring Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries.

Vital guidelines to ensure traveler safety

Because road safety is a shared responsibility between government agencies and drivers, the authority issued an important appeal to road users to fully comply with safety guidelines before and during travel between cities in the Kingdom. This includes ensuring regular vehicle maintenance, adhering to speed limits, and avoiding driving while fatigued. The authority emphasized that traffic awareness contributes effectively to raising safety levels and reducing accidents during peak seasons and holidays.

Strategic goals towards global leadership

These intensive efforts align with the goals of Saudi Vision 2030, supporting the ambitious objectives of the Roads Sector Program. The Kingdom is steadily striving to achieve sixth place globally in the Road Quality Index, a goal that reflects the scale of its massive infrastructure investments. The national strategy also aims to reduce the road fatality rate to less than 5 deaths per 100,000 people and ensure the road network meets the International Road Assessment Programme (iRAP) safety standards, while maintaining a high level of service that efficiently and effectively accommodates increasing traffic volume.
