The importance of rainfall for enhancing water and agricultural security
These rains are of paramount importance to the Kingdom's water security, as they are the primary source for replenishing groundwater and surface water. The Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture continuously monitors these rainfall amounts to assess the water situation and maximize the utilization of rainwater and floodwater through dams located throughout the country. This supports the agricultural sector and contributes to increasing natural vegetation cover, aligning with the objectives of the Saudi Green Initiative.
The climatic context of the rainfall event
These rainfalls are part of the Kingdom's winter season, which is typically characterized by the passage of low-pressure systems that bring intermittent and sometimes heavy rain, particularly to the central, northern, and eastern regions. This time of year is crucial for the growth of natural pastures and for moderating the climate, positively impacting the environment and wildlife, as well as boosting winter tourism, a favorite among many citizens and residents.
