Jeddah buses during Ramadan: 7 routes to end traffic congestion in the historical area

In a proactive step aimed at improving traffic flow during the holy month of Ramadan, the Jeddah Municipality , represented by the Jeddah Transport Company, announced the launch of its operational plan for the season. This plan includes the allocation of seven key routes to serve visitors to the historic Al-Balad district. This initiative provides a comprehensive solution to the parking crisis and traffic congestion that the area experiences annually during Ramadan nights.

Details of the seven routes and starting points

The operational plan is designed to cover a wide geographical area, connecting Jeddah's various neighborhoods to its historic center, thus facilitating access for visitors without the need for private vehicles. Key departure points include:

  • Al-Taysir and Al-Khalidiyah neighborhoods.
  • Central vegetable market area.
  • Al Marwa 3 neighborhood.
  • National Guard Hospital.
  • The industrial city.
  • Al-Sulaimaniyah neighborhood.

This interconnected network ensures coverage of the population density in the north, east and south, providing a safe and convenient alternative for accessing Ramadan events.

Historic Jeddah: A destination of heritage and spirituality

This project holds particular significance given the special place that the Al-Balad district occupies in the hearts of Jeddah's residents and visitors. Since its inscription on UNESCO's World Heritage List, the district has become a global tourist and cultural destination. Its appeal is amplified during Ramadan nights, when the unique Hijazi architecture, exemplified by its traditional latticework windows (rawashin) and over 650 historical buildings, blends seamlessly with the spiritual atmosphere of its 36 historic mosques and vibrant souks.

Facilitating access to this area via public transport directly contributes to preserving the urban character of the area by reducing carbon emissions and vibrations resulting from vehicle congestion, thus enhancing the sustainability of this cultural heritage.

Strategic dimensions and smart solutions

The importance of this step extends beyond the regulatory aspect alone, encompassing developmental dimensions that align with the goals of the Kingdom's Vision 2030 to improve quality of life and promote a culture of public transportation. Providing reliable transportation options contributes to:

  • Reducing traffic congestion: decreasing the number of cars heading to the historic center, thus ending the ordeal of searching for parking spaces.
  • Stimulating economic activity: Easy access means an increase in the number of visitors to heritage shops and markets.
  • Promoting tourism: Providing a civilized transportation experience for visitors and tourists that reflects the development taking place in the Kingdom.

Technology at the service of visitors

The municipality encouraged the public to take advantage of the accompanying technological services, enabling visitors to plan their trips, view bus schedules accurately, and book tickets electronically via the Jeddah Bus or the company's official website. This digital transformation ensures a seamless journey that begins at home and ends in the heart of history, away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
