Jordan welcomes the Riyadh conference to resolve the issue of southern Yemen
The Jordanian government on Saturday expressed its strong support for the call by the head of the Presidential Leadership Council in Yemen to hold a comprehensive conference in the Saudi capital, Riyadh. This conference aims to bring together all southern factions at a single negotiating table to discuss just and sustainable solutions to the issue of southern Yemen, a step Amman described as a fundamental pillar for ending tensions and defusing political and military escalation.
The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan also appreciated the rapid response of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to host this conference, stressing that this step comes as an extension of the pivotal and leading Saudi role in supporting efforts aimed at achieving security and stability in the sisterly Republic of Yemen, and its tireless endeavor to unify the Yemeni ranks to face the current challenges.
A call for calm and prioritizing dialogue
In a statement detailing the official position, Ambassador Fouad Majali, the official spokesperson for the Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, reiterated his country's firm stance calling for an immediate de-escalation and a halt to all forms of escalation. Majali emphasized the necessity of prioritizing dialogue and reason, and addressing the outstanding issues between the Yemeni brothers through consensual political understandings that guarantee Yemen's best interests and preserve its unity and security.
The importance of unifying the Yemeni ranks
This invitation comes at a sensitive time for the Yemeni situation, as the "Southern Issue" is one of the most complex files requiring fundamental solutions to ensure the stability of liberated areas and unify efforts in confronting economic and security challenges. This upcoming conference is seen as a historic opportunity to unite the various southern political factions under the umbrella of legitimacy, with the support of the Arab Coalition, to reach a consensus that guarantees rights and establishes a new phase of national partnership.
Saudi role and regional stability
Riyadh has consistently played the role of guarantor and mediator in the Yemeni crisis, from the Gulf Initiative to the Riyadh Agreement and the formation of the Presidential Leadership Council. Hosting this conference is seen as a renewed affirmation of Saudi Arabia's commitment to supporting political rather than military solutions. Observers believe that the success of this conference will have a positive impact not only on Yemen itself, but will also contribute directly to strengthening regional security and stability, and securing international waterways in the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab, which aligns perfectly with Jordan's vision of Arab national security.
