The Ministry of Education is training 8,000 specialists to integrate people with disabilities into schools

the Ministry of Education launched a package of specialized training programs under the umbrella of the "Inclusive Learning Journey" initiative. This initiative, sponsored by the Deputy Minister, Dr. Saad Al-Harbi, aims to train 8,000 specialized educational staff by developing central trainers equipped with the latest global methodologies and virtual reality technologies, to ensure the effective and efficient integration of students with disabilities into mainstream schools.
National context and ambitious vision
These proactive steps align with the objectives of the Human Capacity Development Program , one of the programs under the Kingdom's Vision 2030, which seeks to ensure that all citizens have access to equal and high-quality educational opportunities. Integrating people with disabilities into mainstream education represents a fundamental shift from traditional, segregated approaches. This modern global trend aims to build an inclusive society that embraces diversity and invests in the potential of all its members without exception.
Training mechanisms and modern technologies
The ministry launched the first phase of this educational initiative by training 228 central trainers representing various education departments across regions and governorates. These trainers will form the core of a team dedicated to transferring knowledge and localizing expertise in the educational field. Through these trainers, the initiative aims to train approximately 8,000 teachers and specialists, representing an unprecedented qualitative leap in the size and efficiency of the workforce working with students with disabilities.
The training packages included a remarkable technological shift through the integration of virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) , to train students on life and social skills in a safe and effective simulation environment, helping them to adapt to the school and community environment before actually engaging in it.
Advanced scientific methodologies
The training programs adopted the Multi-Level Support System (MTSS) model as a cornerstone for all educational stages. This model aims to provide graded educational and behavioral responses tailored precisely to each student's needs, ensuring that no student is left behind.
The ministry also focused on empowering teachers with Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) , and using it as an effective tool for developing classroom strategies and controlling classroom management, which contributes to creating a stable and productive learning environment for all students, whether they have disabilities or are their normal peers.
Expected impact and importance of integration
The importance of this initiative extends beyond the academic sphere to encompass profound social and psychological dimensions. By promoting the concept of "less restrictive environments," the Ministry enables students with disabilities to integrate into the school community and lead normal lives, thereby boosting their self-confidence and developing their social skills.
To ensure accurate assessment and follow-up, the initiative has dedicated a track to qualifying measurement and diagnostic specialists on the use of formal and informal tests, which raises the quality of identifying the individual needs of students, and contributes to bridging the gap between general education and special education, leading to educational outcomes that match global standards.
