Makkah Health Cluster: Awareness messages for pilgrims in their own languages to promote their safety
The “In Their Language” initiative promotes healthy communication with pilgrims
In a humanitarian initiative aimed at enhancing effective communication with pilgrims, the Makkah Health Cluster, represented by its Nursing Affairs Executive Department, launched a unique initiative entitled “In Their Language.” This initiative, which falls under the “Rafida” strategic plan for the 1445 AH Hajj season, successfully broke down language barriers by delivering awareness messages and health guidance directly to 827 pilgrims of various nationalities, using their native languages to ensure the clear and accurate delivery of medical information through a multilingual and multinational nursing staff.
The Hajj pilgrimage is the world's largest annual human gathering, with millions of Muslims arriving from all corners of the globe, bringing with them immense cultural and linguistic diversity. This diversity presents a significant logistical challenge, particularly in the healthcare sector, which relies heavily on precise communication between patients and medical staff. Therefore, initiatives aimed at bridging this language gap are crucial to ensuring that every pilgrim receives the care they deserve and understands the preventative guidelines that protect their health during the rituals.
Makkah Health Cluster's efforts to enhance pilgrim safety
The “In Their Language” initiative is a practical and innovative solution to address the communication challenge, reflecting the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s commitment to providing the highest levels of service to pilgrims. Addressing pilgrims in their own languages not only facilitates the provision of healthcare but also gives them a sense of reassurance and care, reducing the stress and anxiety associated with illness in an unfamiliar environment. This humane approach has a direct impact on improving health outcomes and enhancing the pilgrim’s overall experience.
Both domestically and internationally, this initiative highlights the advanced capabilities of the Saudi healthcare sector in managing crowds and providing world-class medical services. It also reinforces the Kingdom's image as a leading nation in serving pilgrims and Umrah performers, emphasizing that the safety and health of pilgrims are top priorities, in line with the goals of Saudi Vision 2030 aimed at enriching the religious experience for pilgrims.
As part of the “Rafida” strategy: Integration that ensures quality and efficiency
The “In Their Language” initiative was not a coincidence, but rather an integral part of the comprehensive “Rufaidah” strategy developed by the Executive Management of Nursing Affairs. This strategy achieved record operational figures during the 1445 AH Hajj season, with the verification of the competence of 17,088 nursing staff and the attendance of over 26,000 participants in specialized training lectures. In addition, more than 100 hours of intensive fieldwork were conducted to monitor 87 nursing departments across various locations, significantly enhancing operational efficiency and the quality of medical services provided to pilgrims.
