The emergency hospital in Mina doubles its capacity to serve pilgrims

Strategic expansion to enhance healthcare in the holy sites

Kadana Development and Investment Company, the executive arm of the Royal Commission for Makkah City and the Holy Sites, announced the completion of the second phase of the emergency hospital development project in Mina, in close cooperation with the Ministry of Health. This project is a strategic step within the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's ongoing efforts to enhance medical preparedness and the efficiency of the healthcare system, with the aim of providing the highest levels of care to pilgrims during Hajj and Umrah seasons.

Historical background and importance of the project

Saudi Arabia welcomes millions of pilgrims annually from around the world for Hajj, making it the largest annual human gathering in the world. These massive numbers present unique logistical and health challenges, particularly in Mina, where pilgrims spend several days in a limited geographical area. For decades, the Saudi government has prioritized developing infrastructure in the holy sites, with a particular focus on the health sector to ensure immediate response to any health emergency, from heat exhaustion and chronic illnesses to potential accidents. The establishment and expansion of specialized hospitals, such as the Mina Emergency Hospital, is an integral part of this long-term strategy to guarantee the safety of pilgrims.

Details of the expansion and doubling of capacity

The second phase of the project, implemented in preparation for the 1447 AH Hajj season, witnessed significant construction development, including the addition of three floors and a vital annex, covering a total area of 18,000 square meters. With the completion of this phase, the hospital's total bed capacity more than doubled to 400 beds, up from 200 beds in the first phase, completed for the 1446 AH Hajj season on an area of 5,300 square meters. To ensure integrated services and ease of movement, the new building was connected to the Mina Emergency Hospital (1) via a dedicated bridge, enhancing the flow of medical operations and speed of response.

Expected impact on serving the pilgrims

Increasing the hospital's capacity to 400 beds will have a direct and profound impact on the quality of healthcare provided. Locally, the project will alleviate pressure on other hospitals in Mecca and allow for the handling of a greater number of emergency cases within Mina, thus reducing response times and improving survival rates. Internationally, this achievement sends a reassuring message to millions of Muslims worldwide and their governments, underscoring the Kingdom's commitment to providing a safe and reliable healthcare environment for pilgrims. This project is also fully aligned with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030 and the Guests of God Service Program, which aim to enrich the religious experience of pilgrims and Umrah performers and facilitate their spiritual journey with complete peace and ease.
