Weather alerts: Rain and strong winds expected in the Al-Baha region today

The National Center for Meteorology issued an advanced warning regarding the expected weather conditions in the Al-Baha region , indicating that the region is affected by a state of atmospheric instability that includes scattered rainfall accompanied by multiple weather phenomena.

The center explained in its daily report that the weather conditions include rainfall ranging from moderate to heavy, accompanied by a noticeable activity in surface winds, which may lead to stirring up dust and sand in some open areas, in addition to a decrease in horizontal visibility due to fog or heavy rain, as well as expectations of thunderstorms.

Areas affected by the weather conditions

The National Center for Meteorology has identified the geographical scope of this weather system's impact, which includes the city of Al-Baha, in addition to a number of its affiliated governorates and centers, namely:

  • Baljurashi Governorate
  • Al-Qura Governorate
  • Bani Hassan Governorate
  • Al-Mandaq Governorate
  • Al-Makhwah Governorate
  • Qalwa Governorate
  • Al-Hujrah Governorate
  • Ghamid Al-Zanad Governorate

The report indicated that this weather condition will continue - God willing - until 8 pm this evening, calling on everyone to be cautious and vigilant.

The nature of the climate of Al-Baha and the influence of the terrain

These weather fluctuations are a consequence of the unique geographical and climatic characteristics of the Al-Baha region, situated on the Sarawat Mountains. The region is known for its rugged mountainous terrain and high altitude, making it prone to the formation of cumulonimbus clouds and frequent rainfall, particularly during the transitional periods between seasons.

These topographical features play a key role in the condensation of clouds coming from the Red Sea, often leading to the formation of dense fog that covers the mountain peaks, which calls for extra attention from drivers and travelers on the winding mountain roads that connect the Sarawat Mountains and Tihama.

The importance of early warnings and safety measures

The early warning system implemented by the National Center of Meteorology is of paramount importance in protecting lives and property. In conjunction with these alerts, the General Directorate of Civil Defense typically urges citizens and residents to adhere to safety guidelines during such weather conditions, which include:

  • Stay away from flood channels and valleys and do not risk crossing them.
  • Avoid low-lying areas and bodies of water.
  • Be careful when driving in conditions of low horizontal visibility.
  • Stay away from metal objects and poles during thunderstorms.

Environmental and agricultural impact of rainfall

Despite the safety warnings, these rains have a significant positive impact on the region, as Al-Baha is a vital agricultural area in the Kingdom. These seasonal rains contribute to irrigating the region's renowned terraced fields and replenishing the water reserves in dams, positively impacting the diverse crops for which the region is famous, such as pomegranates, grapes, and almonds. Furthermore, the increased vegetation serves as a major tourist attraction.
