Orange alert: Rain and thunderstorms expected in the Eastern Province until Sunday

The National Center for Meteorology in Saudi Arabia issued an orange alert for expected weather conditions across large parts of the Eastern Province, warning of severe weather fluctuations that could disrupt daily life and traffic in open areas and on highways. The alert included the governorates of Al-Ahsa, Al-Udayd, and Buqayq, as well as surrounding areas.

The meteorological department explained in its report that the weather conditions include moderate rainfall accompanied by strong winds that may stir up dust and sand, causing near-zero horizontal visibility. The center also indicated the possibility of hail, flash floods in some valleys and ravines, as well as thunderstorms and water accumulation in low-lying areas. This warning is scheduled to remain in effect until 5:00 AM on Sunday.

These warnings come as part of the vital role played by the National Center of Meteorology in monitoring climate change and protecting lives and property. The center relies on an automated early warning system to alert residents and relevant authorities well in advance of weather phenomena. The "orange alert" level in the meteorological classification system indicates the need for caution, as potential weather phenomena may be severe enough to require special preparations from citizens and residents.

Geographically, this weather pattern is particularly significant given the nature of the affected areas. The Al-Ahsa Governorate, along with the cities of Al-Udayd and Buqayq, encompasses a network of vital highways connecting the Eastern Province to the rest of the Kingdom and neighboring Gulf countries. Such fluctuations, especially strong winds and reduced visibility, increase the risks for road users, necessitating strict adherence to traffic safety instructions.

Under these conditions, the General Directorate of Civil Defense typically urges everyone to exercise caution, stay away from areas prone to flash floods, waterlogged areas, and valleys, and avoid attempting to cross them while they are flowing. It is also advised to follow official media outlets and the accounts of the Meteorology and Civil Defense departments to stay updated on the latest developments, ensuring everyone's safety and avoiding the dangers resulting from these seasonal weather fluctuations that the region experiences from time to time.
