Robotic colon tumor removal in Mecca

King Abdullah Medical City in Mecca, a member of the Mecca Health Cluster, has achieved another medical milestone, adding to its record of successes. A specialized medical team successfully ended the suffering of two patients by removing colon tumors using advanced robotic surgery technology. This rapid intervention is part of the implementation of the "Urgent Care Pathway" system, a cornerstone of the modern healthcare model in the Kingdom.
Details of surgical procedures and rapid recovery
The medical city explained the details of the two cases. The first case involved a 57-year-old female patient who was diagnosed with a mass in her sigmoid colon via endoscopy. After thorough examinations at the colorectal oncology clinic, she underwent a successful robotic surgical procedure and was discharged from the hospital in good health just two days later.
The second case involved a 61-year-old patient diagnosed with a mass in his right colon. His case was handled with the same efficiency and speed, as he underwent a successful robotic resection and was subsequently discharged from the hospital in good health, reflecting the effectiveness of the applied treatment protocols.
The robotic surgery revolution: precision and pain reduction
Robotic surgery represents a significant leap forward in modern medicine, surpassing the limitations of traditional surgery and conventional endoscopy. This technology provides the surgeon with a magnified, three-dimensional view and exceptionally precise movement, allowing access to delicate and complex areas within the pelvic and abdominal cavities without damaging surrounding tissues.
One of the most important advantages of using robots in colon surgery is:
- Significantly reduce blood loss during the procedure.
- Relieving pain after surgery and reducing the need for painkillers.
- Accelerating the recovery period, allowing the patient to return to their normal life in record time.
- Reducing the rate of surgical complications and wound infections compared to open surgery.
Medical competencies and keeping pace with Vision 2030
This achievement was supervised by an integrated medical team that included in the colon and rectal surgery Dr. Tariq Al-Subhi, Dr. Parvez, Dr. Shatha, and Dr. Hanin, with the participation of the anesthesia team consisting of Dr. Hisham and Dr. Ahmed Sadqa, in addition to Dr. Adnan Al-Zanbaqi from the endoscopy department.
This success embodies King Abdullah Medical City’s commitment to keeping pace with the objectives of the health sector transformation program within the Kingdom’s Vision 2030, through localizing modern technologies and raising the efficiency of health services, to ensure the provision of medical care that matches global standards and enhances the quality of life for patients in the Kingdom.
