The Saudi Football Federation gives clubs a deadline to finalize the AFC Champions League schedule

In a move aimed at enhancing the technical and administrative stability of Saudi clubs participating in continental competitions, the Saudi Arabian Football Federation held an important coordination meeting via video conference today (Monday). The meeting included representatives from the Federation's Competitions Committee, the Saudi Professional League, and representatives of the Saudi clubs competing in Asian competitions this season.
This meeting comes as part of the Saudi sports system's commitment to providing an ideal competitive environment for clubs, especially given the challenges posed by the current season's congested schedule. Discussions focused primarily on the latest developments regarding the AFC Champions League and AFC Champions League 2, two tournaments in which Saudi Arabia has a strong presence, reflecting the development of football in the Kingdom.
In light of the recent changes and the congested schedule,
the attendees discussed the statement issued by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), which included indications of postponing the Round of 16 matches in both continental tournaments. These changes directly impact the domestic league schedule, prompting swift action from the Saudi Arabian Football Federation (SAFF) to ensure that clubs are not negatively affected by the congested fixture list and to protect players from fatigue and injuries amidst the intense competition both domestically and continentally.
The importance of coordination and its anticipated impact:
These meetings are of paramount importance given the prominent position Saudi clubs hold on the Asian football map, as the Kingdom's clubs are perennial contenders for titles. Therefore, any scheduling changes require meticulous planning to ensure a balance between domestic commitments (the Roshan League and the King's Cup) and international obligations. This collaborative coordination aims to develop flexible organizational solutions that serve the best interests of Saudi football and enhance the chances of its representatives winning continental titles.
The
meeting reviewed several proposed solutions and scenarios from the Federation and the League, and assessed their suitability to the current season's timeline. At the conclusion of the meeting, it was agreed to grant clubs a short period to carefully consider these proposals within their administrative and technical departments.
The Saudi Arabian Football Federation has set tomorrow (Tuesday) at noon as the deadline for receiving clubs' feedback and comments on the proposed solutions. Based on these responses, an official position will be formulated and submitted to the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) for appropriate decisions that safeguard the clubs' rights and facilitate their participation in tournaments, following full coordination with all relevant parties.
